After NBA player Jason Collins broke that barrier this week, the National Football League is making sure it will be ready for any coming out party.
Earlier this year, at least three college football players said they had been asked about their sexual orientation during NFL recruitment interviews, sparking calls for the NFL to do more to fight discrimination.
Just hours before Collins' coming out statement was published by Sports Illustrated on Tuesday, the NFL - America's most popular sport, with $9 billion a year in revenue - released a workplace conduct statement' regarding sexual orientation.

Play clock will be extened to allow for longer snap counts. Doh!!
What happens when they start bleeding on other players? Just a question.
I am wondering how all of the heterosexual players are going to react knowing that a queer is in the locker room with them.
I have no doubt it takes quite a guy to play at the NBA level for 12 years. But WHY is he never referred to as a "star"? Even by ESPN?
And yeah, my suspicious meter is up when a "star" happens to come out as gay in the twilight of his career. When he may have no other options for employment next year.
I'm sure his teammates must be thrilled to know that this guy was enjoying showering with them. REALLY enjoying it.
"Why does Jason spend 45 minutes in the shower? It's like he never leaves that place."
Not if Jason Collins has any say.
There won't be a tight ends anywhere.
He's ready to make them plenty loose.
“I’ve always believed that the “watching other men play sports” thing was gay to begin with.”
Gay or female? You can’t be a guy. Anyone that watched Joe Montana win a Super Bowl in the last two minutes isn’t going to say something as stupid as what you just did.
There is nothing like watching a team do almost anything well, whether it is football or surgery.
Overcoming ego, self-doubt, injury, communication problems, the weather, and finally the opponent to do something difficult is an artform. It is poetry.
You should lurk a bit more before commenting again, or use preview before you post.
Better yet, print it out, then read it again the next day and then decide to post.
"High sticking" will take on a much darker meaning!
ALRIGHT I remember IN LIVING Color you could see that video on YOU TUBE NOW LOL!
I miss that show ROFL
Two snap up
As a woman and NFL fan don’t like the color
I expect more from Fellow Freepers make more like Librance home you see in upcoming Michael Douglas movie
OH MAN Michael does look like Librance I been watching preview while watching Game of throne this season LOL!
Like I said, gay: you're speaking to a combat veteran. Joe Montana wouldn't have lasted 10 seconds where I've been.
Football is a kid's game. Real men serve their country under fire.
You might consider "printing everything out and waiting for a while to post" before writing rhapsodic eulogies about overpaid draft-dodgers in tights..
The NFL has already began committing suicide with it’s rule changes to block head butting - add acceptance of openly homo players and NFL income will drop to less than half of what it is today.
Will any touches be seen as a ‘hate’ tackle? Sheesh! Can things get anymore idiotic!
Where are the fans going to go?
You have a good question.
And surprisingly to me, throughout the Baraqqi Depression and the advent of HD big screen televisions, the stadiums still seem to be pretty full every week.
While the Obamas and others just gush over how wonderful this guy is, David Letterman mocked Tiebow with a bitter and nasty rant.
Sounds like the lavender mafia wants the RIGHT intention behind asking "so are you gay?". They want the numbers of out and proud mansluts to increase.
I didn’t watch before, and I won’t be watching now.
