George Jones-He Stopped Loving Her Today 4-26-2013 Country Music legend George Jones has died at the age of 81 "He Stopped Loving Her Today" is the title of a song recorded by American country music artist George Jones that has been named in several surveys as the greatest country song of all time. It was released in April 1980 as the lead single from the album I Am What I Am. The song was Jones's first No. 1 single in six years.(VIDEO)
The song is performed with the singer telling the story of his "friend" who has never given up on his love. He keeps old letters and photos, and hangs on to hope that she would "come back again." The song reaches its peak with the chorus, telling us that he indeed stopped loving her when he finally died. She attends his funeral.

George Jones - Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes?
You know this old world is full of singers
But just a few are chosen
To tear your heart out when they sing
Imagine life without them
All your radio heroes
Like the Outlaw that walks through Jesse's dream.
No, there will never be another
Red-headed stranger
A Man in Black and Folsom Prison Blues
The Okie from Muskogee
Or Hello, Darling
Lord, I wonder who's gonna fill their shoes?
Who's gonna fill their shoes?
Who's gonna stand that tall?
Who's gonna play the Opry
And the Wabash Cannonball?
Who's gonna give their heart and soul
To get to me and you?
Lord, I wonder who's gonna fill their shoes?
God bless the boys from Memphis
Blue Suede Shoes and Elvis
Much too soon left this world in tears
They tore up the Fifties
Old Jerry Lee and Charlie
And "Go, Cat, Go!" still echoes through the years.
You know the heart of country music
Still beats in Luke the Drifter
You can tell it when he sang I Saw the Light
Old Marty, Hank, and Lefty
Why, I can feel them right here with me
On this Silver Eagle rolling through the night.
Who's gonna fill their shoes?
Who's gonna stand that tall?
Who's gonna play the Opry
And the Wabash Cannonbal?
Who's gonna give their heart and soul
To get to me and you?
Lord, I wonder who's gonna fill their shoes?
Yes, I wonder, who's gonna fill their shoes?...
George Jones could sing the pain authentically like no other country singer.
One of the best country songs ever
George Jones
Finally Friday
I got a hundred dollars smokin’ in my billfold
I know I oughta save it but it’s burnin’ a hole
Right through my pocket and into my skin
Come Monday morning I’ll be broke again.
It’s finally Friday
I’m free again
I got my motor running for a wild weekend
It’s finally Friday
I’m outa’ control
Forget the workin’ blues
And let the good times roll.
I got a little sugar baby down the road
She’s sittin’ on a radio and rockin’ on roll
We’ll dance up a storm and later all night
We’ll be workin’ on doin’ all the wrong things right.
It’s finally Friday
I’m free again
I got my motor running for a wild weekend
It’s finally Friday
I’m outa’ control
Forget the workin’ blues
And let the good times roll.
That song gave me goosebumps when I first heard it, and it still does.
George wrote a song about me!
Here he is at his best. Jamie O’Hara’s (of the late great O’Kanes) tune “”Cold Hard Truth”.

RIP Possum
A legend has passed. 81 hard driving, break-neck paced years. History is going to have a hard time sorting out whether Hank or George get the top ranking as the most authentic honky-tonk country music singer of all time.
Listen to Tammy Wynette's "Til I Get it Right". You may change your mind.
RIP Possum

That’s Junior Brown playing the cop.
Best voices in country: George Jones, Ray Price, Keith Whitley, George Straight; in that order.
He Stopped Loving Her Today.
I never had really stopped and listened to George Jones, being a little put off by the stories of his excess, and not quite a country music fan. (I tend towards Swing and mid century vocalists like Ella and Frank).
A few years ago CMT did a special on the top 100 country songs ever written - George came in at #2 with He Stopped Loving her Today and Tammy was #1 for Stand by Your Man. They had performers cover most of the top 10 but George, the old man himself, came in and sang his song. It was magnificent. His voice was going but I cried through the last few verses.
This isn’t that version, but the closest I could find. He is a marvelous interpreter of lyrics - he uses every note, every syllable to pull every drop of emotion from a song. Enjoy.

I heard George tell the story of this song. He told the album producer he did not want to record the song. He said “No one will buy it,..it is too damn sad.” He lost the arguement and the rest is history. There are many in country music who say George Jones had the greatest country music voice ever. He was one of a kind out of Beaumont, Texas.
I can see why you love her, although I’m more of a Patsy Cline fan. ;^)
?
the song took a year to record because the spoken word part of that song he couldn’t do since he was too drunk all the time.
he said he could sing drunk, just not talk drunk.
Read that he said if you saw him sober in the `70s
you saw him when he was asleep.
That voice of his was truly amazing and so many great
songs he has left behind..a giant talent gone
RIP George Jones
i was headed out the door but now i have time what song did he write for you
