A 61-year-old man was shot to death by
police while his wife was handcuffed in another room during a drug
raid on the wrong house.
Police admitted their mistake, saying faulty information from a drug informant contributed to the death of John Adams Wednesday night. They intended to raid the home next door.
The two officers, 25-year-old Kyle Shedran and 24-year-old Greg Day, were placed on administrative leave with pay.
They need to get rid of those men, boys with toys, said Adams 70-year-old widow, Loraine.
John Adams was watching television when his wife heard pounding on the door. Police claim they identified themselves and wore police jackets. Loraine Adams said she had no indication the men were police.
I thought it was a home invasion. I said Baby, get your gun!, she said, sitting amid friends and relatives gathered at her home to cook and prepare for Sundays funeral.

Tragedy, but it happened Oct 2000 as far as I can tell.
Anybody have any followup on what happened to the two cops?
Where do you see that date?
Unions
15.4% Don't try that at home .. those goobers were pro fessionals
As a police officer I find this infuriating. Everyone involved should be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law. This was easily avoidable by a moderate amount of average police work, which they obviously didn’t do.
Wrong address? What difference does it Make? /s
“Sorry, we intended to raid the home of your neighbor, Thomas Jefferson, because our informant said that he has been growing hemp. He’s a black guy, right? Because, like his kids are black.”
Murder a citizen, be acquitted, and the taxpayers foot the bill....

In October 2000, DRCNet reported on a rash of police killings during drug raids gone bad. Among them was the case of John Adams, 62, a black resident of Lebanon, TN, who was shot and killed by a police SWAT team raiding the wrong house on October 4 of that year. After masked officers burst into his home, Adams fired a shotgun at the intruders before they shot and killed him as his wife Lorine, 72, looked on in disbelief.
Lebanon Police Lt. Steve Nokes, head of the town’s narcotics unit, was fired from the police department and indicted on charges of criminal responsibility for reckless homicide, tampering or fabricating evidence and aggravated perjury. He was acquitted of all charges in June 2001.
But the Lebanon Daily Times reported on May 24 that the city of Lebanon will pay at least $400,000 to Lorine Adams. She has received a lump sum payment of $200,000 and will receive $1,675 per month for the rest of her life. If she lives 15 years, the total pay-out would reach more than half a million dollars. The city also paid John Adams’ medical bills of $45,000 and funeral expenses of $5,804. The city’s insurance carrier will pay for the settlement. No word yet on Lebanon’s new insurance rates.
“We did the best surveillance we could do, and a mistake was made,”
If THAT is your “Best”, then we prefer you close shop.
Current comments under the 'story' lead one to believe many, of all races, are still mightily pissed off about it, and rightly so.
Checking things out...this happened thirteen years ago. Why are you posting this story now?
If I were a Judge, I would make CI’s and the Police involved testify under oath in my chambers with my court transcriber for any requests for warrants based on intangible information.
Thank you for condemning this; unfortunately, that is not what happened.
Try 12+ years old ... although it does illustrate that the situation has not changed. http://archives.cnn.com/2000/US/10/06/tennessee.shooting/

LEBANON, Tennessee — Police shot and killed a man in his home in Lebanon, Tennessee, after trying to serve a drug search warrant at the wrong house.
"It's time for us to look in a different direction. There are just too many inconsistencies in our police department. It's time for new leadership." The first incident in which Weeks was connected was In 2000 when Lebanon police mistakenly raided the wrong home and shot the homeowner, John Adams, 62.
Not that my mistake lessens the earned outrage !

That's no excuse. 100% of the responsibility belongs to the police department.
But the people in Boston have no problem with having loaded guns trained on their loved ones because after all they know what they are doing.
