It’s not “pseudo-authority,” it’s real authority.

Yes. Out of the barrel of a gun and the threat to blow your head off for not complying with whatever is demanded of you by an agent of the state operating under orders that will be deemed to be law later.

That's a law of human nature Mao himself openly declared, where all power comes from when government uses it to 'keep the people safe'.

Interesting to see you espouse it here. I guess for many, compliance to "real authority" requires trading essential liberty for the promise of security.

I know what Franklin had to say about that.

So much for liberty in America today.

Fundamental transformation.... complete.

There are more cop haters here on FR then there are at DU.

I’m on your side in all of this.

I’ve also read all I intend to read on this thread.

Good night from a Boston suburb.

EV: But the laws are well-established in this country that in emergency situations, what are called "exigent" circumstances, law enforcement and fire fighters do not need warrants.

____________________________________________________________

101stAV: The Fourth Amendment is still controlling here. When an officer applies for a search warrant, his affidavit must describe the place to be searched and the items or persons to be seized. Likewise, exigent circumstances must exist at a particular place. The exigence exception allows officers to enter a particular place under specific circumstances.

Otherwise, please explain why the police cannot search every home in Southeast Washington, DC every single night? Violent felons run from the police there every single night. If you don't support nightly searches of all homes in SE DC, please explain how it is different.

____________________________________________________________

Good question. I'd like to see it addressed.

Cop haters?

You wouldn’t know of cop if they broke your jaw with their badge.

I'm a retired police officer, so I'm certainly no "cop hater". Perhaps you can answer the question EternalVigilance has not:

Violent felons run from the police every single night in Washington, DC. Would you support the DC Metropolitan Police going door to door every night to search houses for those criminals who just evaded them?

I was just asking an obvious question

The answer was intended for all readers, some who are undoubtedly clueless.

I have been thinking how I would feel if I lived in Watertown.

If you have nothing to hide why not let them search.

Well, for starters, I don’t want all the crud they have on them from the manhunt getting into my house and maybe even bed bugs getting into my house as they ransack it with their guns pointed at me and telling me to put my hands on my head.

So if I want to say no for whatever reason then I should be able to say no.

Maybe my reason would be silly but it is still my reason.

Sorry I missed your post. Easy to do when when a few dozen people are posting at you, many calling you vile names.

Your question is certainly a good one.

The answer is that in this particular case they were dealing with someone with a proven willingness and capability to kill mass numbers of innocents, including children. Shoot, he was even willing to drive over the top of his own brother, apparently. They could not afford to let him get away, if they could help it.

This situation was about as exigent as it gets, frankly.

If you are indeed a U.S.citizen, they are your public government servants also, are they not?

Your criteria would have the DC Police conducting mass searches about once every week or two. If a suspect fires multiple rounds into a crowd of people and speeds away in a carjacked BMW, your criteria has been met.

Very disturbing.

It’s not “pseudo-authority,” it’s real authority. If you don’t like it, change the laws.

No, it is not. Just because some corrupt politicians make a law does not make it a real law. And a court made up of a bunch of lawyers in black robes cannot place their countenance upon an unjust and unconstitutional "law."

The Constitution is ours, not the Government's nor that of a paid Government employee. Our Founding Fathers meant it as ours and not for the Government to do with it as it sees fit.

But don’t forget that those men in uniform are doing exactly what you say you were doing for thirty years.

No, they are not. By their actions they have abrogated their oath of office by suborning the Constitution to the Government and Government agents (themselves). They are placing the GOD GIVEN sovereignty and freedom of every citizen in the trash can while they run around pretending to be the military commandos they obviously are not.

You do not protect the lives of people by removing their freedoms and liberties, AT ANY TIME. Life is messy. Freedom comes with great risk to both personal and physical self.

Benjamin Franklin had the quote, already posted earlier on this thread, about giving up freedom for supposed safety. He was totally correct because Government, nor it's armed agents, will ever create real safety. They will only erode individual freedoms to gain control over everyone they decide will be their subjects.

I live in the real world. This is the one where Government is starting to become despotic and for some reason people like you not only apologize for them but also try to help them.

Not Silly, You don’t need a reason, The Bill of Rights tells them that “THEY” have to have a reason.
