The couple's grandson took Adolf, who is thought to be at least 100 years old, indoors but for the following month the reptile showed no sign of life.We have a large semi-aquatic turtle. (Nasty thing. Our daughter brought it home from a friends house when she was 5. She's now in her 20's).
It hibernates during the winter. I don't know what kind of turtle Adolf was, or if it would hibernate, but maybe that's what happened?

The Millers had been told Adolf was found in a crater caused by one of Hitler's bombs in 1942.
How do we actually know the turtle was anti-Nazi -- and not some testudinal Rudolf Hess parachuted in by the enemy?

Bombed. Although the Germans actually did shell the British coast wiith long range guns on the French coast, and the brits fired back with their own guns.

Cold turtles and tortoises hibernate, they are reptiles.

There’s a lot of furor over this hibernating turtle.
The tortoise wouldn’t turn turtle for the Nazis.
Built-in fuhrerbunker.
