Is anyone planning to see this?
Has anyone already seen it? If so, what did you think of it?
Review from The Orange County Register: '42' swings for the fences, but it's one, two, three strikes
If Jackie Robinson was a hero, good for him. But then so was Billie Holliday, Malcolm X, Arthur Ashe, Jesse Owen, and the thousands of other black celebs we're heard about endlessly in the last few decades.
Where are the bios about Booker T Washington and George Washington Carver?
Archie Bunker said Robinson changed the whole color of the game.
The party of Al Gore Sr. was SO much more principled. NOT. Voting against the civil rights act. Making his maid sit in the car while they dined in restaurants.
We are told that KKK Democrats like Robert Byrd HAD to do such things to be politically viable in their communities.
RIGHT. UH HUH.
Harrison Ford has said that the gay marriage issue is the same as Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in baseball.
Enjoy your movie.
I wonder if the film mentions he was a Republican. That seems to be all but forgotten about Dr. MLK, so “color” me pessimistic.

That right there is a good reason not to see this pic. Sounds to me like this will be another white guilt flick. I don't need this.
Another hate whitey film that I get to vote with my pocketbook.
Americans and even Jackie Robinson have gotten over it. It's time for the race pimps in Hollyweird to get with the program and get over it too.
Heard a great story directly from a former player in his nineties about how Howard Jones defended Robinson while he was at UCLA, but I won’t divulge here. Hoping to write bio of the coach’s life.
I’ll take a contrarian view. Unlike all the race pimps that have piggy-backed on his greatness, Jackie Robinson really was the real deal - what he did really did matter and I have total respect for the man on and off the field.
I’m sympathetic to the anti-Hollywood anti-PC sentiment but I like Jackie and I happened to think that the movie rendered a slice of his life in a fairly realistic manner.
Ymmv.
haha... omgosh--that is sooo lame... yes, he is disappointing... i think i will enjoy the movie... i tend to like baseball movies... The Sand Lot is my all-time favorite kids movie...
i appreciate your perspective... i look forward to seeing the movie...
I’d be curious to know if this movie is based on amy book in particular. In 2007 for the 50 year anniversary of Robinson’s rookie season Jonathan Eig wrote a book called Opening Day about Robinson’s first season in which he questined some populkar myths concerning Robinson such as the Pee Wee Reese story.
I love period pieces and the attention to detail here makes the movie fun - the cars, the clothes, the stuff you find in hotel rooms, locker rooms, offices. I have a pretty strong sense that they didn’t get the lingo of the day right - several times they used words or phrases that I don’t think would have been in use back then - that would have made it even better IMHO.
Why should the film mention his political party?
yes, so do i! i soon as i saw the trailer, i knew i would pay to see this movie... and i also love sports, baseball in particular... and professional sports at that... that people take the sport so seriously as to make a living from it--in many forms... from the players to the managers, scouts, agents, refs, owners, etc... i find it intriguing...
one of my all-time favorite movies is Cinderella Man--another period piece with two of my favorite actors--Russell Crowe and Paul Giamatti, whose father was the commissioner of MLB...
