In a recent thread about the death of Jonathan Winters, it was stated that he was one of the funniest men who ever lived. He WAS funny, but he wouldn't be on my list of the funniest who have ever lived. And by "ever", I mean since the dawn of recorded media. My list of the funniest people who have ever lived would be as follows:
Groucho Marx
John Cleese
Mike Myers
Bill Cosby
Peter Cook
Rowan Atkinson
Charlie Chaplin
George Carlin
Mel Brooks
Woody Allen
Douglas Adams.
The sole criterion is that they make me laugh. Hard. Everybody is different. What makes you laugh might make me cringe. And verse visa. So list away...
I don't know if anyone else could have pulled off what Atkinson did in the final scene of Black Adder Goes Forth, if you've ever seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about.
i believe he and Bob Newhart are best friends... i loved watching Don Rickles on the Dean Martin Roasts... those were the days...
Nobody said W.C. Fields?
The Great One. And away we go!!!!!!
’ watch him in “The Black Adder” series’
Good to see some still know him as the Black Adder, (”with many a cunning plan”) instead of Mr. Bean, whom I find very lame.
(more obscure, but Leonard Rossiter in “The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin “ was darn funny)
me neither!
I think It’s a Gift is his best work.
Whadaya think ‘cat....Did he? I’ll bet he did!!
In my early overseas assignments before I really knew anyone I found the only thing that really made me laugh were old Warner brothers cartoons. The one that had the greatest effect was ‘duck, rabbit, duck’. Therefore I give Mel Blanc a gracious nod.
People with Asperger’s argue, bluntly and inappropriately but very intelligently of course, over whether or not Jim Parsons actually is one of them. The funniest such remark I’ve seen said no way, no how, he drinks his tea from a different side of the cup each time.
The pauses in his story were classic. Burnett, Lawrence and Van Dyke were almost getting it together, and Conway would start in again and tear ‘em up.
LOL!
My vote goes with Bob Hope. Comedy “In Theatre” is a talent.
Buddy Hackett
Gene Wilder
Dennis Miller
Not sure if these top the list, but worthy of mention, and made me laugh over the years: Sam Kinison, George Carlin, Gallagher, Grandpa Jones, the guys from MST3K (Servo, Mike, Joel), Uncle Dave Macon.
John Candy, Mr. Bean, and John Cleese get my votes
Tim Conway’s definitely #1 on my list. The guy is in a class by himself. And that is “is”, not “was”. He’s still around.
Foster Brooks was great on the Dean Martin roasts.
Sid Ceasar
Imogene Cocoa
Not only he did, but he also did the fellow nun Barbara McNair!
