Newtown families: Victims turn lobbyists
Politico ^ | 4/11/2013 | MIKE ALLEN and JIM VANDEHEI

Posted on 04/12/2013 8:41:00 AM PDT by rktman

When a lobbyist for families of Newtown shooting victims called the office of Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) to set up a meeting, the first response was a standard D.C. offer. They could get a meeting with her staff, and a quick and simple “hello” from Collins herself, they were told.

The families’ answer: not good enough. According to their lobbyists, the families have a rule against staff-only meetings: They won’t do them. They insist on sitting down with the senators themselves.

Thank God king hussein would never stoop to such tawdry things like using these emotionally distraught families to further his agenda. I accept their pain and anguish. What I don't accept is their totally irrational thought process egged on by the brady bunch and gabby giffords and her disgraceful hubby mark kelly-giffords. Not one of the proposed pieces of legislation would have prevented or will prevent these types of acts. Wake up folks and hammer your congress critters.

Being a victim family is now a budding cottage industry - as we saw with 9-11 families. To be sure, losing a loved one is traumatic, but we all lose them in mundane ways all the time. Having to surrender our rights and our common sense to the whims of certain select victim classes is one of the many dynamics destroying our liberty.

Roger that. Disgusting display of theatrics seems to be the norm. It’s no longer politics but celebrity status despite the anguish, although they may not realize it, but the msm does, and is pushing it hard. What better than a retired(disgaced, in my mind) Naval officer/astronaut and his wounded wife. Kind of jim and sarah brady in reverse. Truly a sad state of affairs.

Correct. If I were a Senator and they weren’t from my state I would not meet. They can meet staffers just like any other lobbyist. Let the media howl. They will anyway.

Roger that. Thankfully there is one of the dad’s who lost his son and spoke out against further gun control since he had the intelligence to understand that none of the proposed violations of millions of law abiding victims rights would have or will prevent such atrocities.

Shouldn’t we be able to invoke our right to privacy, as established in 1973, to protect our rights to own firearms?

Yep, and besides, nothing the folks are pimping would have changed a thing about the Newtown tragedy. In fact, laws like this are the cause of such events.

I believe that any American has the right to lobby congress for any reason whatsoever.

Even if they want to lobby congress to turn this country into a complete communist state. They have the RIGHT to do it.

“I don’t agree with you but I will fight to the death to defend your right.....”

These families intentions are misguided and wrong, but they have every right to lobby for whatever reason they want.

That is American.

Now I would hope our congress critters will make the right choice. But as far as what these people are doing, they are Americans, they have the right to do it.

If you’re not in the state or district of any of these congress clowns, they won’t respond to your emails. Why should they meet with any protest group outside their constituency?

"....one of the dad’s who lost his son and spoke out against further gun control...."

Media ignores him, as does Obozo and Malloy. Doesn't fit the new "narrative". (Neither does the two homosexuals who molested their adopted boys or the abortion "doctor" who butchered live babies for fun and profit).

very well put- and the sad thing is that htey’ve been brainwashed in to belivign that if they go after law abiding citizen’s right to own guns that they will be safer off- but the realiaty is that the left is telling htem bald faced lies- the ONLY thing that woudl have protected thsoe kids was if there were metal detectors i nthe school AND armed guards who coudl have responded immediately and taken otu hte threat- Our luggage in airports is subjected to strict safety searches, yet kid’s backpacks can’t be searched?

The parents are fightign the WRONG people- they should be SUING connecticut for FAILING to protect their kids in gubmint mandated schools- for FAILING to enforce the 1000’s of gun laws already on the books- for FAILING to provide even a modicum of protection to their children in the fishbowl of ‘gun-free zones’

The left WILL win it’s war agaisnt the constitution and the law abiding citizens of htis coutnry because htere are too many peopel liek htose parents who just don’t get that their govenrment doens’t give a damn abotu their kids, and that their only agenda is gun confiscation of law abiding citizens (thus makign hte world and even MORE DANGEROUS place to live in- because as Thomas Jefferson said (paraphrasing) “Take guns away from the peopel and you give the bad guys uncontested access to masses of unarmed citzens unable to defend themselves’ - basically he was sayign that criminals are BEGGINGour govwenrment to outlaw guns and to confiscate guns- they LOVE gun-free zones- they ARE criminals- so what the hell do they care about obeying gun laws? Nothing! That’s what!

LOL! Are you kidding? “Privacy? You don’t “need” no steenkin’ privacy.” Funny how you can have the right to privacy for killing an unborn innocent life but not your right to own a firearm. Remember post 9/11? “Don’t judge all muslims by the actions of a few radicals.” Now it’s “Judge all gun owners by the actions of a few deranged individuals.” WTF? I guess we are worse than radical islamists that want to cut our heads off. And proud of it too!

Kinda sad for the families, wonder if they realize they are being exploited and used like this. They’ll be dropped like Cindy Sheehan as soon as they are no longer useful.

[[Shouldn’t we be able to invoke our right to privacy, as established in 1973, to protect our rights to own firearms?]]

That is no logner possible- If you do so you are a felon- and doctors and nurses are now informants for the govenrment, so if you have ever had ANY problems with depression, or anxiety or ANY kind of slight mental issue that millions upon millions of Americans suffer from, you WILL be signled out for cofniscation- it’s happenign in NY and it WILL happen all across thsi coutnry because our republican representatives are cowards and WILL NOT put a stop to this unconstitutional assault on our RIGHTS

...but because they are victims, we are not allowed to ever doubt a single syllable of what they utter.....else we’re mean spirited haters...

Do you think you have the same access as they do? I sure as hell don’t think I could get a flight to d.c. on AF-1 and be hand guided on a red carpet to each rep and sen office like these puppets. Unlimited access by the clowns pushing the agenda? If you think we can, let me know and we’ll meet up in d.c. after our free plane ride to start lobbying.

The rats are the party that uses funerals as staging grounds for campaign rallies. Can anybody be surprised when the rats turn around and manipulate the families of victims of violence (9-11, Newtown) for political advantage?
