I recall that there may be an avenue that Archy knows to pursue this case.

- There is federal deprivation of rights, but there might also be something particular to Illinois.

Moving to ILL. was the first mistake.

Next step is to try and find an attorney who will help you there are most likely some that specialize in firearms law there.

Or they are feet dragging waiting to see what the law changes are going to be with regards to CCW.

When up go to apply online or a FOID card, it says that due to high demand, your approval may be delayed.

Apparently that’s a disclaimer to cover any law. Mine took 3 months to come. My sons took 2 months & it was a renewal.

Relax.

Mine took 7 weeks this year. My gun shop says they’re running up to 12 weeks now for new FOID applications due to the massive number of new applications.

Don’t spend money on lawyer. It’ll come. I’ve never heard of anyone who wasn’t a felon getting one.

Chicago may be a Commie city but the rest of IL is not. The IL State Police support gun rights for the most part.

I'm sure those upstanding urban dwellers in Chicago abide by the FOID requirement.

Before you expect the NRA to sue, understand that there is a need for standing. Sounds like you have standing, so why don’t you spearhead the effort and file a suit yourself? You may even gather enough attention that the NRA might assist or back you.

Come to Washington state - no FOID nonsense. My CWP renewal took fifteen minutes at the sheriff’s station. Background checked and printed right there.

The state is currently overwhelmed by the enormous demand for FOID cards. I’m sure they didn’t anticipate this. You either have to wait or move I think.

Wait until you try to buy ammo in this state.

I have never found a state that didn’t have little petty tyrants violating gun laws just because they can. Until someone sues, nothing will happen.

A journalist could do dome good.

Several years ago A friend, who is an IL resident, and I went to a IL gunshop. I found a nice Marlin 36 at a good price and bought it. Since I was a MO resident I didn’t need a FOID card and only had to wait 24 hours to pick up the rifle. I still tease him about my special treatment.

The entire country has wiped out all of the store shelves of ammunition, from .308 all the way down to .22 LR.

The entire country has wiped out all of the store shelves of standard capacity magazines for all popular handguns and rifles, a situation that is just now beginning to turn around.

The entire country has wiped out all of the store shelves of Modern Sporting Rifles and most popular full capacity handguns, a situnation that is just now beginning to turn around.

Illinois is under court order to develop some sort of concealed carry system, the last state in the union to do so.

You think that maybe, just maybe when you combine all the above facts, the overwhelming number of your fellow Illinois citizens that have applied for their first FOID card may have caused the system to be backed up just a tad?

They pull this CRAP in New Jersey also. By law you are to get your FID card or pistol purchase permit in 30 days. The real time is usually a “minimum” of three months. They then give you a song and dance that there is only one person in Trenton who handles all the paperwork.
Another ploy is to wait three weeks and then tell you that your fingerprints can’t be read so you have to do it all over again.

This satisfy you now Mr. Moderator.

Sorry to hear you have to live in IL. Try calling the Attorney General’s office? Just my only thought...

I live in IL, and can speak to this issue directly.

At issue is the lack of funding for the State Police office that is responsible to run the background check and either issue or deny the permit in 30 days.

One tactic has been to delay cashing checks, as you experienced. This is obviously to buy time in processing your foid application. This tactic has been failing for over two years now.

The State Police are now backed up 90 to 120 days in processing applications. Don’t complain to your Democrat state rep, this is part of their plan to delay new gun owners as long as they can.

Don’t complain to the State Police either, they’ll just refer you to your state representative (who btw doesn’t care.)

In my case, I fought for two years to get my foid card. It sat in an unprocessed pile that long until I finally got through to the State Police and complained long enough (to an understanding, and quite helpful officer I might add) to have my application located and processed. Ten days later, I had my foid.

My brother’s application took 104 days from the time they cashed his check. They held his check for almost 30 days, making the total wait 134 days. He got his FOID three weeks ago.

All I can say is hang in there. I agree, a foid is a barrier, however that’s what it takes in this socialist shithole of a state. The State Police are processing as fast as they can, I think. The issue is they aren’t funded to the level required to process applications in the time specified by law. That’s our state reps fault, and they’re doing it deliberately.

One last thing: do NOT buy weapons in Illinois. Buy them in Wisconsin or Indiana. You’ll have to wait the required time to pick up a firearm from an out of state dealer, but IL won’t have a record of the purchase. Illinois is silently creating a firearms owner database. Don’t purchase guns in this state. I’d suggest mail ordering your ammo too. Yep, they’re tracking ammo purchases too.

A permit in MA costs $100 and can take up to a year, depending where you live. Each COP gets to make up their own set of criteria regarding ‘suitability’.

It can always be worse.

I’m surprised the NRA hasn’t filed suit as this is an egregious breach of the public trust and a blatant violation of the Second ammendment.
***They’re not interested. They’re more interested lately in finding ways to compromise the 2nd amendment.

I don’t know if these are intentional delays or just incompetence

Pssst, I’ve heard Chicago politicians can fix almost any problem.
I think you might take a closer look at you contribution history. It could make a difference. You know what I mean?
