A sign posted outside a Collin County nail salon promoting it as "American Owned, American Staffed" is generating controversy.
The merchant defends her sign by saying it's a "patriotic business decision." But others believe it's focused more on what her Fairview business isnt: Asian owned and operated.
Ed Thayer said he was offended when he saw the sign in the window of the St. Tropez Nail Spa. He's a regular customer at a Vietnamese restaurant next door. He and his wife adopted four girls who are Vietnamese-Americans.
Thayer said he was so upset, he went into the salon to confront the owner.
"I said, 'This sign here implies that the other salons around here that are owned by Asian-Americans are less American than you,'" Thayer recalled.
Shhhh. You might tip him off to the irony...
It seems to me Mr. Thayer is the only one with a race problem. If he considered his adopted children American there would be no need to put the word Vietnamese before American.
The simple truth is that you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a Vietnamese nail salon. They pop up overnight and go out of business twice as fast. They have a terrible reputation for uncleanliness and cheap nail products.
If you want a nasty nail infection, you can find one on every bloak for the cheap price of 25dolla.
Check the kitchen. There may be Mexicans on staff. < /truth >
****Id rather stay at an American owned hotel too rather than some place owned by the Patel family from India.****
What about a hotel owned by the sons and grandsons (all born in the USA) of the Patel family?
And why do they cough and spit on the ground everywhere? This ain’t ‘Nam.
That’s because Vietnamese and Mexican cuisines are closely related! Everybody knows that!
I remember an article in the TULSA WORLD or TRIBUNE about 42 years ago about the Patels taking over the hotel industry in Oklahoma.
The letters to the editor were interesting. Some were horrified that “foreigners” were moving in on the business, others where happy these “foreigners” chose to open businesses rather than go on WELFARE in the US.
Yet we can have “Mexican Chamber of Commerce” and every sort of foreign/ethnic outfits who cater ONLY to their own kind, and god help you if you’re offended about that!
Hypocrites. So much for the ‘tolerant liberal’...it doesn’t exist!
Someone needs to tell Eddie to STFU.
Sorry. But they USED to be Vietnamese. They are NOW Americans.

Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton will probably do that too:

The three of you and everyone else in America (still) have such freedoms, but probably not for long.

But...THAT is okay!
What’s the problem? If the nearby salons are owned by American citizens they can certainly post a like sign, regardless of their ancestry.
He does say they are Asian-AMERICANS.
I bet his name is Ed Sayer and he only pronounces it ‘Thayer.’
Aaaawwwww.
She should have said to him, “What’s the difference between ‘American’ and someone who is ethnically Asian, who is a citizen of the United States?”
Since he probably has a whole bunch of defective neurons, then ask him what the “American race” is?
