We've all heard of sanctuary cities and how they protected illegals from federal laws. How we have states that legalize drugs even though they are illegal under federal law.
Well how about a sanctuary city to protect us from run-away taxation? abortion mills? the homo agenda? rampant federal spending? (i have no idea how to stop them from spending, though maybe limit the amount contributed by the city to the fed)
We need a sanctuary nation - or at least a couple states.
I detect some thoughtcrime here.
:)
So what does Texas have to do to survive as a Republic?
1. NASA is just south of Houston , Texas . We will control the space industry.
2. We refine over 85% of the gasoline in the United States.
3. Defense Industrywe have over 65% of it. The term Dont mess with Texas , will take on a whole new meaning.
4. Oil we can supply all the oil that the Republic of Texas will need for the next 300 years. Yankee states? Sorry about that.
5. Natural Gas again we have all we need and its too bad about those Northern States. John Kerry will have to figure out a way to keep them warm.
6. Computer Industry we currently lead the nation in producing computer chips and communications small companies like Texas Instruments, Dell Computer, EDS, Raytheon, National Semiconductor, Motorola, Intel, AMD, Atmel, Applied Materials, Ball Miconductor, Dallas Semiconductor, Delphi, Nortel, Alcatel, etc, etc. The list goes on and on.
7. Medical Care We have the largest research centers for cancer research, the best burn centers and the top trauma units in the world, as well as other large health centers. Dallas has some of the best hospitals in the United States.
8. We have enough colleges to keep us going: University of Texas , Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Rice, SMU, University of Houston , Baylor, UNT ( University of North Texas ), Texas Womens University, etc. Ivy grows better in the South anyway.
9. We have a ready supply of workers. We could just open the border when we need some more.
10. We have essential control of the paper industry, plastics, insurance, etc.
11. In case of a foreign invasion, we have the Texas National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard. We dont have an Army, but since everybody down here has at least six rifles and a pile of ammo, we can raise an Army in 24 hours if we need one. If the situation really gets bad, we can always call the Department of Public Safety and ask them to send over Chuck Norris and a couple of Texas Rangers.
12. We are totally self-sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs, and several types of grain, fruit and vegetables, and lets not forget seafood from the Gulf. Also, everybody down here knows how to cook them so that they taste good. Dont need any food.
This just names a few of the items that will keep the Republic of Texas in good shape. There isnt a thing out there that we need and dont have.
Signed, The People of Texas
I think when things have gone this far, the only reasonable action is let the system completely break down and be ready to pick up the pieces. Imagine being St. Paul in Greece and Rome. He had to face cultures that are in many ways similar to what society is degenerating into.
We’ve allowed “progressive”/liberal thought to rule for so long that we have removed structure from society. We are already paying for this through a loss of status as a world leader due to our inconsistent political stand in foreign relations, irresponsible spending, and overall “dumbing down” of Americans as a class. As more of the progressive doctrine is forced upon Americans, I expect conservatives to regroup and make a stand. That is, if they can. It is my belief that the weakening of our currency, attempts to disarm the general population, and increase of governmental powers are all designed to make resistance nearly impossible. Sad thing is that by doing this internally, we become weaker in the world. Perhaps this is why North Korea dares to threaten our west coast.
Well, “secession” keeps sounding better and better to me as each day passes. But I’m a Texan, so it’s not a newly wistful notion to entertain. As the US continues to degrade, I tend to identify myself increasingly as a Texan moreso than an American, admittedly.
Watched a few old movies the other day, including some westerns, and the thought that kept coming back to me as I watched was how envious I was that everyone who participated in the film, everyone who saw the film at the theater when it came out, was then-and-there experiencing an America that never in its wildest imagination could envision a country so thoroughly decayed and wallowing in deviancy as this country has become. Open borders, homo marriage, rampant anti-Christianity, marxist leaders, etc. The more America decomposes, the less interest I seem to have in the country’s survival, much less politics.
Your make-believe city would THRIVE.
No crime, it would be clean, no ghettos, no homeless beggars, no street hustlers, plenty of work... it would absolutely flourish.
Not a bad idea
Seems those who work, pay taxes, raise families, spur economic growth, have no rights or protection.
Seems we do need sanctuary cities for Americans. Better than learning bad Spamish, push drugs, and change our names to DeSha’Quan
New Vegas Ping.
In all seriousness though, Vegas used to be a place like that.
You would never steal from a Casino because then the Mafia would show the Bottom of Hoover Dam....The Fast Way
I’m afraid red states like Texas are being invaded by liberals from the other failed states. Liberals are like locusts, they infest an area and once it’s utterly destroyed due to high taxes and insane liberal policies they go to greener fertile states. Once there, they begin voting liberal again and gradually destroy the new place, never making a connection that voting for liberal policies is the root cause of the destruction.
My question is, what kinds of laws and/or state constitutional amendments can be implemented to shut down liberal policies and progressive change? They clearly have an advantage now with all of the cronyism and corruption they have created at all levels of government.
Assuming you have a conservative state today, how can you stop freaks from coming in and gradually making changes over time that create bigger oppressive government??
Well, those are great questions that I have no effective answer to, and Texas is certainly not immune from the liberal infestation. In fact, at the rate California libs are flocking here and the combined pressure of the illegal invasion, I predict Texas will look and feel just like California does now in about a decade if a CW doesn’t break out first.
I know one thing Texas doesn’t have...enough water!!
in FL, there are no state income taxes. the amount the state has to spend is strictly limited. as such, govt waste seems to be much lower then other states (i've lived in FL, MA, VA, CA, and NJ.. FL being the best run so far)
a state Constitutional amendment that would restrict total incomes taxes from an individual to no more then X percent... same for everyone... would restrict the amount the state (and fed) could bring in. it would also encourage them to do everything they can to increase the income of the people, as they would receive more tax revenues.
think big. texas can make water... they have access to the gulf.
Shut down funding for public education, and such cities won’t be needed.
I mentioned the sanctuary city idea too, not long ago. We may lack for creative billionaire impresarios here :)
A sanctuary city would be a tax haven, highly attractive to businesses now hobbled by obamanism.
Throw in an anti-welfare article to its charter, and you’d have only productive citizens.
Definitely worth doing, but not easily begun.
