'Fess up, or pay a fee: Outrage over 'bullying' CVS policy that requires workers to 'voluntarily' report health information... or pay a $600 fine
A new policy at the popular pharmacy chain CVS is causing outrage after the company announced it will require its employees to report their weight, BMI, and glucose levels or pay a hefty fine.
CVS Caremark, which is based in Rhode Island, has some 200,000 employees.
The controversial new policy would require workers to sign a waiver that they voluntarily disclosed the information, but those who opt out must pay a $600 fee.
Patient advocate groups say this is just another coercive measure and worry that those employees in poorer health might risk getting fired.
The company mandated that all of its employees must get the screenings, which include their height, weight, body mass index, blood pressure levels, and glucose levels, by May 1, according to the Boston Herald.
CVS added that they will cover the cost of these screenings. But that comes at a price those who have their tests covered by the company are required to sign a waiver saying the screenings were voluntary.
If workers refuse to sign up, they will be charged an extra $50 a month, or $600 a year.

Coming soon to a company near you!
I would like to point out the who BMI is a piece of S**T. I had a BMI test done to me and they said it was too high for my height. Never mind that I’m working out and if I go down the “correct” BMI index, I would be skinny as rail.
Darn. And CVS was so convenient for me. Well, there are other pharmacies.
In 1986, part of the hiring process for the large bank I worked for in NYC was a physical by their doctor. I never even questioned the process.
Ping for later
Doesn’t CVS have ties to Soros?
“”In 1986, part of the hiring process for the large bank I worked for in NYC was a physical by their doctor. I never even questioned the process.”””
A friend of mine was recently offered a warehouse type job from a huge national grain processing company. Before he could be hired he had to go to their clinic, see their doctors and have a physical done. They will know everything about him.
Hopefully the insurance premiums of unhealthy employees will skyrocket, but I don’t wish the loss of a job on anyone.
Close this draconian, meddling POS down.
That would be the practical way of doing it, like car insurance, unfortunately I'm pretty sure Obamacare bans that under the "prexisting" condition provision. You can't charge more to people with Obesity, hi blood pressure, diabetes etc.
Nazi’s running CVS.
Cerner Corporation (hospital software company, Kansas City, MO) has been doing this for years. Started out voluntary, then not so voluntary (due to surcharges on health insurance). One of the (many) reasons I left...
Part-timers hardest hit.
Surprise! That means most of them.
One word: Walgreen’s.
Hopefully?!?
Cigna is doing that here in Dallas.
$30.00 every two weeks on top of the regular cost.
Last year it was answer a questionnaire.
First question was name, second question was do you smoke more than ten cigarettes a YEAR, third question was what is your cell phone number and that is when I walked out and went back to my desk.
This year it is the “bio-metric” screening via a blood draw.
NOPE.
Next year?
.
They call it a Health Risk Assessment and we take it yearly.
It is voluntary and consists of about 50 questions. The reward is lower contributions/premiums on the health insurance they offer....which is quite good.
There is no way a company should be assessing fines for non-compliance.
Nothing to see here. Boeing has been doing this for two years to direct employees, with provisions to apply same to spouses in the near future.
Here in Proto-Oceania the Inner Party long ago decreed we proles do not belong to ourselves.
The NappyOne
Same here. To save $25 a month each, my wife and I have to fill out a yearly questionnaire and “biometric screening”.
