For many Americans, this March Madness will be the same as ever: brackets, ruined brackets, buzzer beaters and praying Duke doesn't win.
Unlike in years past, the NCAA tournament won't be the only March Madness competing for headlines. Sometime next month, the College of Cardinals will meet at the Vatican to begin their conclave, which will select the successor to Pope Benedict XVI.
Because brackets are the greatest invention since the printing press, the folks at religionnews.com fused the two competitions and put together a tournament of 16 leading contenders for the papacy. They called it "The Sweet Sistine," which makes me think someone came up with that awesome name first, then decided to fill in the brackets.

Nope......he’s gonna be black. Imagine -— the FIRST Black Pope! I mean, it worked out so well here in the US for our President, didn’t it?
It’s one of the few times that NPR got it right. It is a tournament...with no doubt.
Certainly sustained by the Holy Spirit.
A Philippine pope would actually make a lot of sense. It’s a poor, third-world, Asian, somewhat Hispanic, English-speaking and VERY Catholic country and they’re even more Marist/Marian than Poland, as I understand it.
I thought they would’ve favored the Celebrity Death Match methodology of Papal Selection.
No, it’s a single vote - albeit with possible multiple castings.
In fact, this whole thread is disrespectful. I've been a Freeper for a long time. But it certainly has it's share of Catholic bashers. Instead of cutesy cartoons, how about offering up a little prayer that the Holy Spirit leads the conclave to bring us a good man of God to lead this church of 1 Billion.
In other news:
“American Cardinal to be chosen as Pope from the outskirts of the great NE megalopolis. Will chose the name Pope Suburban I. “

I think you're right. The funny thing is many of those African bishops are extremely conservative, so the leftist drones in the media will be applauding at first, then when he takes a hard line against all their pet causes like homosexual marriage, abortion , gvt mandated birth control they'll soon be singing a different tune. Don't forget those African churches have first hand knowledge of what the "religion of peace" really is, he may not be so eager to sympathize with mohammedanism.
For me , if he's a man of faith, and holds orthodox positions I don't care where he's from.
“It worked out so well here in the US” No it didn’t! And this next selection won’t either, regardless of who they pick. This next pope will make obama look little child. Popular speculation by proponents of the prophecy attach this prediction to Benedict XVI’s anticipated successor. He is: Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills [i.e. Rome] will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The End. These prophecies attributed to Saint Malachy, Archbishop of Armagh. Oh and He’s no closet Protestant.
Okay, "Sweet Sistine" is funny.
Vote for Pedro!
Omaha has a cardinal?
I don’t care either where he’s from as long as he is a deeply religious, apolitical and nonracist, nonperverted individual.
My only comment about my comment is that when/if they elect a black man pope, it won’t be because any of the above I stated. It will be because of the same reasons Obama was elected.
Gee....sorry....I really didn’t think I needed a ‘sarc’ tag on my comment. Based on what’s happened with Obama and the rest of the world so far, I fully expect we are in a handbasket ride to hell, if you ask me.
