An Indian teen has recently proposed a solution to an unsolved problem in mathematics. The 17-year-old young achiever, Rutvik Oza, a student of The H. B. Kapadia New High School, from Ahmedabad, Gujarat has now put a full stop to another open problem in the field of maths by providing a closed formula for the problem called Reve's Puzzle (also popularly known as the 4-peg Tower of Hanoi Problem).
When asked about how was he feeling, "Thrilled! I really didn't realize at first that the problem that I had solved was an open problem in mathematics. It was only later that I reckoned after doing some resourcing on the web, that it was an open problem," said Oza. Dedicating his achievement to his father, Mahesh Oza, "It's all due to my father. He sowed the seeds of mathematics in me from my childhood. I dedicate this to him." he says. "It almost took me a week's time to get to the formula. It involved data analysis and pattern recognition," said Rutvik Oza.
"Mathematics interests me a lot. May it be any area of it - arithmetic, algebra or geometry. I love them all. It strengthens the faculties of originality, creativity and novelty in one's brain. Memorizing it won't help. That's the way it's taught in our schools here. I criticize that method of teaching fervently. Hardly any real mathematics is taught at the schools. I do not consider the schools responsible for it but yes, the entire system is definitely at fault," he added. When asked for a message that he wished to give his fellow teenagers, he said, "Do what you love! Follow your dreams. Expect for no support from anybody and overcome all obstacles that hinder you. No other mantra."

Hurrah for Rutvik and his father! That's the spirit.
Take that, Obastard!
Hey US students, this is your competition. And you are losing, badly.
I thought the toughest open problem was how to prevent squirrels from getting to the bird feeder.
I am happy for the kid. Hopefully his talents will be used for more than figuring out how much milk to use in a latte.
Thanks for posting. Will be passing this on.
Excellent. Well-spoken young man.
Sadly he is part of the competition. It appears we have dumbed down our schools so much that teachers are told to teach down to the dumbest in the class.
But they know everything about the life Martin Luther King (well, outside of the plagiarism, the extra-marital affairs, etc.)
Don’t worry, Obama wants to teach his Communism to your child in Head Start.
and huge taxes spent on ‘education’ or union sponsored multiculturalism or self-esteem classes had nothing to do with this kids success.
I had to cover the classes this week of a teacher who was out for surgery. The school is virtually all minority. On the first day, I drew cafeteria duty. One of the items on the menu was fresh oranges. I didn't see a single orange being eaten, but dozens of them were being thrown across the room as basketballs or at other students. Another teacher told me they tried to tell the cafeteria staff not to stock oranges, but the simple-minded cafeteria staff merely said, "We have to." Can't even think outside the box, those folks.
The work packets for the week of the absent teacher were on the teacher desk in the room. The "students" destroyed the pile by ripping them apart to make paper airplanes or basketballs, never mind being told not to do so. I decided to show a nature video which covered the same topics as the handout, but would not supply ammunition, the next day. One of the "students" came up to the DVD player, opened the drawer and ripped out the DVD (my own), pulled the connecting wires out and ripped the power cord out of the wall, all in a few seconds. Then he took off. This is why I wear running shoes to school, folks. I caught him and got my DVD back, while he got a suspension in return. Another teacher was taken out of the school on a stretcher. Seems she got in the trajectory of a punch aimed at another student. A girl got up and just walked out of class, without a word. Another girl told me, "She's off to feed her baby." What? Well, seems that there's a NURSERY for students' babies in the basement of this "school".
Another student pantomimed a gun with his hand at me, saying "Bang-bang". That brain dead thug is now out on a serious type of suspension.
With the Mayor handing over vast powers to the STUDENTS, they are running the show. Don't like a teacher? They can write a report about what the teacher did to them, consisting of 100% fiction, and it will be believed over the teacher. And they know it. This is how you arrive at a travesty of a high school such as described above. The only math problems they are trying to solve is how many things can they steal and how much their next dose of their drug of preference costs. Your tax dollars at work, folks.
Indians have a long history of achievements.

My blood pressure went up reading that- are you working on Sainthood or something?
“Expect for no support from anybody...”
That is FOR SURE. As the parent of kids that are 6+ years ahead of their grade level, I can tell you that no one gives a damn (except for few immigrant friends that are able to understand the significance). The rest of the parents are MUCH MORE interested in making sure their boys can get on the football team, I guess so they can get some twat in high school (or earlier).
The caste system does have its advantages.
If I were you I would seriously consider moving myself and my loved ones out of that socialist hellhole to a place called the USA.
Just keep driving until you see the Stars and Bars and a John Deere distributorship and you will know that you have arrived.
Oh, and I forgot to mention—that particular classroom had no windows in the doors, as is legally required. AND, there are absolutely NO security guards strolling that particular stretch of the hall. It’s a half-flight of stairs down from the main hall and security was NEVER EVER seen in that section. That’s why dozens of “students” were always hanging out there, even bouncing a basketball down the hall, with total impunity. Additionally, when I tried to call for assistance in the classroom after the DVD had been vandalized, NO ONE ANSWERED. I even heard one extension being hung up every time I called. I could have been grievously injured behind that closed door in that isolated hallway, and none be the wiser.
OMG where is this school? I don’t think they could pay me enough to put up with that. Reminds me of the movie “Dangerous Minds” but I think Michelle Pfeiffer must have played a fictitious character.
