An Indian teen has recently proposed a solution to an unsolved problem in mathematics. The 17-year-old young achiever, Rutvik Oza, a student of The H. B. Kapadia New High School, from Ahmedabad, Gujarat has now put a full stop to another open problem in the field of maths by providing a closed formula for the problem called Reve's Puzzle (also popularly known as the 4-peg Tower of Hanoi Problem).
When asked about how was he feeling, "Thrilled! I really didn't realize at first that the problem that I had solved was an open problem in mathematics. It was only later that I reckoned after doing some resourcing on the web, that it was an open problem," said Oza. Dedicating his achievement to his father, Mahesh Oza, "It's all due to my father. He sowed the seeds of mathematics in me from my childhood. I dedicate this to him." he says. "It almost took me a week's time to get to the formula. It involved data analysis and pattern recognition," said Rutvik Oza.
"Mathematics interests me a lot. May it be any area of it - arithmetic, algebra or geometry. I love them all. It strengthens the faculties of originality, creativity and novelty in one's brain. Memorizing it won't help. That's the way it's taught in our schools here. I criticize that method of teaching fervently. Hardly any real mathematics is taught at the schools. I do not consider the schools responsible for it but yes, the entire system is definitely at fault," he added. When asked for a message that he wished to give his fellow teenagers, he said, "Do what you love! Follow your dreams. Expect for no support from anybody and overcome all obstacles that hinder you. No other mantra."

What are these “maths” I keep reading about?
Note this guy seems to have solved the “Four Peg” version:

Britspell for “math”.
Kind of like “p-e-t-r-o-l” for “gasoline”.
I can solve the Tower of Hanoi problem in one move. A B-52 airstrike.
Nice
If he does end up working at a Starbucks, I would definitely go there. He'd likely mix my latte with the perfect milk to coffee proportion.
The caste system (such as it is, which is variable) has nothing at all to do with this.
You have a hair bothering you?
Unreal...
Seriously, Ein, your very life isn’t worth a paycheck. The kids in that ‘school’ have already gone full-blown feral, and will never respond to your efforts to assist them. Get out now, before one of them decides to hurt you for ‘dissing’ them.

Wise seventeen-year-old.
Nothing simple minded about it (the oranges)... It is probably a federal requirement.
From stories I’ve heard from other teachers, yours is a fairly good city school.
The kids would be better off running wild. At least some of them might work, at some point. Survival tends to focus the mind.
Sitting in a building doing nothing is about the worst thing you can do to a child.
Not at all, but genetics does play a part in it, yes?
Genetics yes, but also training (how a person is raised in the family, cultural and educational influences and so on), and then the mystery of free will, all play a part.
Even in the Vedic texts, caste or more correctly, varna, was determined by type of work or action, quality and charater traits rather than merely birth. If a person was born in a brahman family but did not behave or act or have the natural characteristics and qualities of a brahman, he would be called a “brahma bandhu” which means “friend or relative of brahmans”. In fact there are historical references to people who were born in one caste or varna, but became another, due to their qualities and choices.
And imho from reading, various racies or ethnicities often have similar strengths and weaknesses (within their group), of course moderated by the free will thing, again.
Think of genetics as being born with a certain amount of money in the bank.
Even vastly wealthy people squander and waste all their money, and people withlittle can use it wisely and gain more. Of course no one can (as far as they know, which isn’t very far) change genetic stuff, but even the brain can change with use and what people focus on.
brahma bandhu - Hindi for “BINO”.
You got it!
I don’t know Hindi, just picked up Sanskrit words, actually a fair bit, from reading. Of course Hindi is derived from Sanskrit.
Is your reply meant to be sarcastic? Or have you lost your mind? A “fairly good school”? It’s a cesspool peopled by savages who do not respond to normal human cues and lack even the most basic normal social inhibitions. “kids would be better off running wild”???? What the hell do you think they’re doing now? None of them will work, they figure Obummer’s gonna take care of their every need. The only reason they are “sitting in a building doing nothing” is because they refuse to do their assigned work. They have PLENTY to do, if they would do their work. Either take your meds, read other peoples’ posts more thoroughly, or just shut the hell up so you don’t embarrass yourself further.
The fact that the problem with four or more pegs is an open problem does not imply that no algorithm exists for finding (all of) the optimal solutions.
Yes genetics does play a part in your potential to achieve.

Talk to teachers at other city schools, and see how yours compares. Yours is probably above average.
