After a restless night of sleep, filled with nightmares where velociraptors and chainsaw-wielding maniacs chase you down, you wake up and wonder what caused such vivid, frightful dreams. Could it have been that spicy Thai food you had before bed?
Actually, there is some evidence that eating a spicy meal shortly before going to sleep can lead to some wacko dreams. In fact, eating anything too close to bedtime can trigger more dreams, because the late night snacks increase the bodys metabolism and temperature, explains Dr. Charles Bae, MD, a sleep medicine doctor at Sleep Disorders Center at the Cleveland Clinic. Heightened metabolism and temperature can lead to more brain activity, prompting more action during rapid eye movement sleep, or REM.
About every 90 minutes people experience rapid eye movement sleep as they cycle through the stages of sleep.

If this were true, I’d never get a good night’s sleep. I put horseradish on english muffins and tabasco on dried apricots.
Crushed red pepper flakes should be behind the pharmacy counter. It should be classified as a psychedelic drug.
So... might our present national nightmare due to us all eating overly spicy food?
I wish!
If it weren’t for hot sauce, horseradish and hot mustard I’d never get to sleep.
The nightmare for me would be a world without hot peppers.
For many years, spicy food at night did not bother me, just tomato heavy dishes would. Now I do not gamble. Habaneros for breakfast are still no problem, thankfully.
I had nightmares about mufflers and woke up exhausted.

Muffler
I love nightmares.
Or good dreams.
Either. Makes me no difference.
Dreaming, to me, is like going to the movies.. I’ve gone the dream interpretation route, trying to put meaning into it.
In the end, it makes no difference, I love the heck out of my dreams, which are colorful, sometimes frightening, sometimes uplifting, sometimes sorrowful.....
No kidding. I put a couple of jalapenos in the pot with some cabbage, broccoli, pork, etc., and woke up with the cold sweats after a nightmare wherein the White Hut had been taken over by an anti-American, communist, muslim, homo, druggie, who had stolen the last two presidential elections. Scary stuff.
right before bedtime???
Wow...I had almost the same dream..only it was about his wife. :-)
Not true. I have nightmares at most 3-4 times a year. I have a spicy omelette every day.
I you play music quietly in the background you can make a musical. Pipe organ is best for nightmares.
Hmmm, I thought it was calliope.
Same here. I haven't had a "nightmare" for as long as I remember, but waking up and remembering some weird bazaar dream and recalling it is loads of fun.
So I’m not the only one?
What’s weird is, when I accepted the bizzar and scary stuff, it decided to stop. Sort of peeved me
