PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) -- Scottie dog has a new nemesis in Monopoly after fans voted in an online contest to add a new cat token to the property trading game, replacing the iron, toy maker Hasbro Inc. announced Wednesday.
The results were announced after the shoe, wheelbarrow and iron were neck and neck in the final hours of voting that sparked passionate efforts by fans to save their favorite tokens and businesses eager to capitalize on publicity surrounding pieces that represent their products.
The vote on Facebook closed just before midnight on Tuesday, marking the first time that fans have had a say on which of the eight tokens to add and which one to toss. The pieces identify the players and have changed quite a lot since Parker Brothers bought the game from its original designer in 1935.
Rhode Island-based Hasbro announced the new piece Wednesday morning.
Other pieces that contested for a spot on Monopoly included a robot, diamond ring, helicopter and guitar.

I always use the race car. And end up racing my way into the poorhouse...
And that reminds me.... I know there’s been a Monopoly NASCAR edition; wonder if they’ve ever given any thought to a Formula One edition? They could replace Boardwalk and Park Place with Monaco and the Nurburgring; at the other end they could replace Baltic and Mediterranean with the Indy road course and the LeMans Bugatti circuit.
And make my game token either a Lotus 79 or a Tyrell P4!
Who wouldnt opt for a little P,
Never mind, family site.
I voted in this but totally forgot what I voted out and voted in. I know it was not to vote in a cat.
When we would get bored with Monopoly my sister and I would play another board game, 'Lie, Cheat, and Steal'. She would always have to get up to go to the bathroom and that's when I would raid the treasury. The look on her face as she realized what had happened was always priceless.
The iron never falls over. The dog does so now they’re adding a cat that will probably fall over, too.
My houses and hotels are wood, but I think the tokens are plastic. To tell the truth, I’ll have to go look. I haven’t played the game for a long time. It was my favorite game as a kid, but the set I have is one I bought for my kids. Don’t know what happened to my original set.
My brother used to put the top hat on top of the race car and go around the board looking like a rich big shot.
I’m ok with the switch from iron to cat if the cat doesn’t fall over.
I don’t know why those of us who already have a monopoly set would care, though. It’s not like we’re going to go out and get a new set to see what the cat looks like.
I’m a cat person, but not on the board! As you said — the iron doesn’t fall over. They said that the iron was the least liked piece, but it was my fav. Maybe a cat lying in the meatloaf position?
They're probably already conspiring to replace the lead pipe with a lead-free pipe...

The candlestick, of course, is now an LED light bulb.
YAY!!!!!!!!
It's been so long ago, Is that the game that had a thing you had to spin for $$$?
If so, I had that spin thing down to a science, I could hit the big cash spot every time........
And while I’m here, I might as well come clean on everything. Whenever I was in charge of the Boardwalk bank, I stole money from it.......lots of money.
Boardwalk bank = Monopoly bank........
In Monopoly whoever was appointed banker had to resist the temptation to steal from the bank to cover their bad real estate bets.
In real life the banks figured out how to steal money from all the players to cover ... their ... bad ... real estate ... bets ...
Wait just a cotton pickin' second.
I don't remember that one, I may have never played it....
As a side note, I think the only times I played board games was when it was too miserable outside to go out and play...........LOL!
