Took my new baby Glock 26 for test today

Posted on 02/02/2013 5:45:05 PM PST by RoosterRedux

Just got the Glock last week and received some Independence 115 grain FMJ this week for practice. Also got some PNW Arms Tacops for defense...didn't shoot any of the good stuff today.

It was smooth as a good cigar...and surprisingly accurate.

Got 46 shots on target. Missed 4 but tried shooting fast and in motion (me, not the target)

So far, have only good things to say about the Glock.

Working to find the best way to grip the weapon. The nose wants to jump up on recoil and the grip only has room for 2 fingers.

I tried moving my left hand back on the wrist...didn't help holding the aim down. Moved it forward and ahead of my right hand. That helped to stabilize the barrel and aim.

Here is a video that shows what can be done with the Glock 26...this guy is amazing at even rifle distances.

I was shooting about 35 feet from target. Will move on to greater distance next weekend.

Have been told that one needs to shoot around a thousand rounds before getting comfy with the Glock 26 and getting accurate. That's a lot of money...but perhaps money well-spent in Obamaworld.

I’ve put over a thousand rounds through my first generation .40 cal Model 22 Glock. It shows no wear and just keeps chucking...

I purchased a G26 Gen 3 on December 1st, just before all the craziness.

May I humbly suggest you try the Pearce +1 baseplate extensions. It gives you a full grip, yet the heel of the grip isn't any longer so it still conceals easily. Your mags will also hold 11 rounds, giving you 11+1 for carry.

Best of all, they're only around $8 each, shipping included, from a few different eBay sellers.

I am amazed at how well the gun points, and how accurately I shoot it. I'm a wheel gun, with a Dan Wesson 715, a Smith & Wesson Model 19 4" barrel, and a Smith & Wesson Model 60 J-frame snubbie with 2" barrel. In defensive point shooting, the Glock outshoots them all.

You may be aware, but there are pinky extenders for the grips.

I will order the Pearce +1 next week (has been recommended by numerous friends). The accuracy of the Glock 26 was astounding, but there is definitely room for improvement. Three fingers should help.

Beautiful CCW however.

Now shopping for a comfy inside the belt holster.

Can you get longer, extended mag so 1-2 more fingers can grip it?

G26 has optional mags: 12/15/17/19/33 rnds, w/ extended base plate.

Many years ago, I started my quest for the perfect CCW handgun. Went thru a lot of them before I settled on the G26 for my primary carry. Just a little bigger than true pocket carry, but has a 10+1 capacity. BTW, I don't use them, but Pierce and many others offer a little extender to the mag that allows one more finger on the grip. Her are my 3 favorite small guns.

Loved the video! Looks like a sweet pistol! Wish I had one and the ammo to practice like that!

I believe that someone makes a magazine extender that will extend the grip somewhat.

Can you believe how accurate that guy is at rifle range? It's just ping, ping, ping.

I will say (having shot mine today), it is a very accurate little pistol.

Of course, practice makes perfect.

One the minor things I do not like about the Glock is the tiny mag release. So I bought an extended mag release. It only protrudes another 1/16” or so but it makes a lot of difference. Takes about 2 minutes to install.

I used to own a S&W .38 feather weight with an internal hammer. Well engineered...couldn't hit anything with it.

Have a Kel-Tec P-32...but as good as it is for carry, I worry about the quality (trying to field strip a Kel-Tec P-32 is a potentially big problem because of that little pin and the spring inside the frame that holds in pin in place).

If you can't field strip and clean your weapon with ease and confidence...you are in trouble IMHO.

I.e. try field stripping a Kel-Tec in the dark and in the field.

Mine is for sale BTW.;-)

you gotta get magazines that have the third finger grip on them.

The mag release is a beatch...my first complaint.

That said, I am either getting used to mine or it is loosening up...or both.

Great choice.
Extremely reliable and accurate.
The Pearce extension will help you.

Anyone who has a G27 (.40 sw) can get a 9mm conversion barrel and G27 mags and shoot 9mm at the range for a little
cheaper shooting.

Can do...does the 3rd finger grip solve that barrel jump problem? I love the 26 but it is hard to hold the aim down with only 2 fingers.

sure, it helps, it allows you to use your whole hand to keep the gun directed where you want it to be. full grip equals fuller control. i have a small pistol that offers mags with a third finger extension and it does help, and you just end up with a better grip on your gun.
