He was better on Maude. Different Strokes was hopelessly lame.

89 is a heck of run. RIP.

BTW, does anyone remember the DS episode where Gordon Jump (maybe best known as “Big Guy” Mr. Carlson on WKRP in Cincinnati) played a pedophile who tried to molest Arnold and another boy? Yikes!

as a kid I LOVED MAUDE! i watched all that stuff... i knew it was a spin off of All in the Family... and Good Times a spin off of Maude... i watched them all... Arthur, Mrs. Naugatuck (spelling), Florida, Vivian... and i think all the boys liked Maude’s daughter Carol (Adrienne Barbeau)...

According to his daughter, Bain was extremely supportive kind heated and did feel awful about the problems the kids had in their lives later, but the cause of death was unspecified natural which I guess is any death caused by disease or old age (most likely heart failure).

According to Dana Plato, her parents did a good job of managing her money. She claimed that a accountant stole most of it.

That might be how the ep went, I honestly can’t remember it’s been so long. Either way, it was really creepy stuff!

Did he suffer from a Stroke or something?

I see what you did there!

Nancy Reagan appeared on the show, if I’m not mistaken.

RIP. But I don’t think he was a very good dad—didn’t Arnold, Willis and Kimberly all do time in real life? : |

Ironically, Alex Karras died three months ago.

“Did he suffer from a Stroke or something?”

Yes but not the same one.

Conrad Bain played the leader of the polygamist clan in Hilldale community when the law went after them in “Child Bride of Short Creek”, a t.v. movie that came out about 20 years ago! There was a handful of young stars in it, who many years later went on to be big stars of t.v. and movies. There was Diane Lane, Chris Atkins, and Helen Hunt! There was also the woman who played the Mom in “E.T.” a long time ago (she played the mom of Diane Lane’s charactor”!

Another unusual place and how for to have featured Conrad Bain once-upon-a-time, was t.v.’s “Dark Shadows”! (old show) He played a small, recurring role as the Innkeeper of Collinsport Inn. (I don’t know if many “Freepers” remember seeing him in that!) He got killed by a werewolf sometime in 2ond or 3rd season! He must’ve been in his mid-late 40s when he was in it!

I liked to watch Maude until one episode Maude thought she was pregnant (I thought she was too old myself for this situation) and her daughter told her that she could have an abortion, that it was okay. Turned me off. I feel like that show and All In The Family were shows that were trying to influence the culture to the left.

yeah—i remember that episode... i was probably 10-years old... i came from a more liberal family... i am the “way” youngest of seven kids, always surrounded by grown-ups while i was growing up... plus i was very observant, bright... always wanting to know everything... so my mind “grew up” sooner than it should have... but just my mind... though my family was liberal, my parents were on the strict side...

RIP. He was a man of means.

I’ve been expecting him to die soon.

Howard Stern will burn in hell for driving Dana Plato to suicide.

Of course. That might be the best, (by best, I mean, cheesiest, of course) “very special episode” of a sitcom ever, though the “Too Close for Comfort” “very special episode” where Monroe was raped by a couple of women gives it a run for the money.
