Sounds like Bloomberg is practicing medicine without a license.
He said on NY radio this morning that ‘some people will suffer’ by not having the necessary pain killers but that somebody always loses in these greater good deals. He actually acknowledged that the poor would suffer most.
It will drive patients with pain to the private hospitals. If the patients cannot afford to pay, the private hospitals will have to provide emergency services anyway - that is the law. This will transfer the costs from public (taxpayer funded) hospitals to private (for profit) ones. The only way the private hospitals will be able to compete will be for them to adopt a similar policy.
While he is a rabid liberal and a tinhorn tyrant, in the case of emergency rooms and disbursement of prescription medicine classified under the Controlled Substances Act, I actually don’t have a problem with only a 3-day supply. It should only be enough to give a patient time to see a regular doctor to whom the patient has been referred.
If the patient does not have the assets or means for a private referral, the prescription should be long enough for the patient to work within the local government health system to locate a more long-term doctor-patient relationship that can fall within public healthcare means.
There was a guy recently on Dr. Phil who told of how he was hooked on Oxycodone and Oxycontin, etc. He shopped every emergency room he could, faking ailments, and lying his ass off. Anything to get the drugs. Last February I broke my foot badly. Extreme throbbing pain. They gave me ONE pill! Told me it was broken and gave me a referral to an orthopedic surgeon along with a prescription for 10 pills.
While I was in the emergency room, I witnessed two, what I’d call druggies, talking to the nurses and doctors in the treatment area about all the trouble they have and pain and needed pain killers....drugs, drugs and more drugs. Neither had any insurance at all.
All should note....especially those PhonyCons who think that “GOP always means ‘Conservative’”.....that Bloomberg initially was a Republican....and was even worshiped by some in the GOP Media.
I would get the hell out of NYC if I was any sort of conservative.
I hope the bloomin’ idiot gets kidney stones for a month and can’t supress the pain!
NYC. The Dry-Nurse State.
naprosyn actually works better in the long run for me....
however, a public govt agency has no business telling drs who to prescribe to and how much to prescribe....its bs.....
I actually agree with Bloomberg on this one - too many pill addicts use the emergency rooms for their prescriptions, 3 days supply unril you get to a doctor is more than enough time.
There are a lot of pill addicts around and this will save taxpayers money.
so the hospitals will be full and not available for use....
will we see more robberies of pharmacies?..probably.....more use of street drugs?..probably....
they have it down to a science...
here in our area there is now a policy where frequent drug seekers get on a list available to all the hospitals and clinics....they can see how many times a patient has come in with pain issues....and treat accordingly....
Ask any pharmacist....I mean any pharmacist, anywhere, about the ridiculous BS that drug seekers can concoct when trying to wheedle a few pills from the person on the other side of the counter. "My dog ate all the percocets" is not too stupid a thing for these d-bags to say.
Bloomberg. Stopped clock principle. Right for this one time.
You can sure bet old Lizardface Bloomberg will never suffer a minute. Perhaps we should outlaw curbside air conditioning.
Take a look what POS Blommberg does for his ownself!
