We’ve had a local tragedy here. A young man (24) whose parents attend our church has been missing since Dec. 27. He was last seen leaving a bar in Cedarburg, running on the icey creek towards his home. He was visiting from Oregon and probably has taken that shortcut home in the winter 1000 times in his youth, but it has not been cold for that long. In any case, he has vanished.
The picture in the newspaper showing the holes the rescue squad has been drilling in the ice in a methodical, 12 inch grid, each one marked with an orange X, are just heart wrenching. They lower a camera, or scope, in each hole for a look under the water. I can’t imagine raising a son to that age and then losing him in a stupid accident. That’s 2 this winter (separate incidents) both 24, both vanished after leaving a bar. They’ll probably show up in the spring thaw.
Had it previously. Would not say its worth a trip back but wouldn’t mind going there again for an argument.
Especially if you can target the sweet spot. Are you excited about hockey? I’m a little ambivalent about shelling out cash for these greedmongers now.
Oh I made a big mistake this morning, sort of.... I had made homemade waffles a few days ago and had two left over and didn’t want to freeze them, so I broke them up into bite sized pieces and pan fried in butter. Holy smokes - thankfully they were for my son but I did taste. I will probably do this in the future though. They were incredible.

That is good news on the 6th circuit decision - and your vacation sounds great.
that is sad - I’ve seen several reports of ice breaking, I think one was in Maine.
There are few things not improved by frying them up in butter. My wife does it with leftover spaghetti.
(Of course, there is nothing that isn’t improved by breading it and deep frying, but that’s another story.)
I just checked the newspaper and now the count is 3 missing young men. These cases are non-related, other than they all have to do with young men, alcohol, ice, and late night wandering.
In our local case, I can see how this might happen. The man has a few in a local bar, bids his friends good night, and takes off up the creek (instead of on the road) for his parents’ home. He probably did that dozens of time when he was in high school. But he doesn’t live here any more, and probably didn’t realize that the creek was barely frozen.
His parents started looking for him within 8 hours — dogs, helicopters, search and rescue and NOTHING. There has been a region-wide alert for people along the river/creek to check their outbuildings, etc. NOTHING.
Last year we had an elderly man missing, and he wasn’t found until May. He’d visited his wife in a nursing home, stopped for groceries, and somehow drove his car into a swamp. But, it’s usually young men. Although I noticed that a local girl is missing from a “group” home. How did they describe her? — “not always capable of making good choices.”
Here I am-I’ve been in the woods for hours, because it was foggy and quiet and I lost track of time in that little world-I just got back...
Once again, Joe Biden has
Pissed off a bunch of folks
Not taken in by a stupid grin
And not amused by his jokes
The words he speaks carom around
As he’s lying through his teeth
As if he thinks no one will look
And see just what lies beneath
As usual, he tips his hand again
As he does the emperor’s bidding-
And along with us, the NRA says
Seriously, dude? You must be kidding...
are they sure you don’t have a serial killer? it must be devastating not to know anything.
I love Chris Isaak’s voice-very Orbison-like...

I’m glad it went well-that is a good omen...
A+++ It’s like they are all enthralled with gun control. Clueless. I see theWon signed a bill guaranteeing he gets life long protection by armed SS agents.
I love when “mistakes” turn into successes.
I hear leftover meatloaf breaded and fried is outstanding. Always meant to try it.
Nice. A+++
No. These cases are totally unrelated. The the group home girl is missing from Racine (although she was a local girl). One kid is missing from Cedarburg — a sleepy village 30 miles north of Milwaukee. The other two are missing from Milwaukee and South Milwaukee. Of course, these days with drug experimentation, the kids make contacts with other communities that you’d never dream that they’d make.
But, there has been no hint of that.
Not just him-the other past ones, too-but obviously his precious self was who it was desiugned to benefit-anything else is merely incidental.
I agree with those who want DC to be a gun free zone-if it is good enough for our kids, and good enough for other public places it is good enough for lawmakers-I’ll bet they won’t like their law if they are as defenseless as every other law-abiding person.
I kept thinking I would lose it and just bawl. I did when my friend Joan died. I found a seat in the tabernacle anteroom and was crying. My friend Ellen found me. I had to get it out of my system so I could drive home. I hate losing it like that in public.
