Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys should part ways after latest loss
NFL ^ | Dec. 31, 2012 | Gil Brandt

The Dallas Cowboys needed quarterback Tony Romo to come up big against the Washington Redskins on Sunday night. Instead, he threw three interceptions, including a crucial fourth-quarter pick that contributed to the Cowboys' season-ending loss. After the latest down moment in Romo's inconsistent career, I think it's time for Dallas to move on; it's time for the Cowboys to cut ties with Romo.

Romo's one of those guys who seems to do really well when it doesn't count, but when it counts, he doesn't get the job done. It's not because he's not smart; it's not because he's not athletic; it's not because he doesn't have ability. He just doesn't do what he needs to, and I think his performance Sunday was a prime example of that.

First, I just don't think he was sharp; he was throwing the ball behind people and so forth. On that big fourth-quarter interception, he was just fooled; Rob Jackson made a good play for the Redskins, but Romo was just fooled.

Okay, “spotty” might be the wrong word. How about “intermittently superior”? I’ve seen Roethlisberger throw for 500 yards and 4 tds, but is anyone prepared to put him alongside Brady, Manning, Brees, or Rogers? No, and that’s what I think of when you mention “premier” QBs.

Nice dodge? What’s his “cabinet position?”

I agree with Gunrunner. Face facts Dan Rooney is the face of the Steelers. Just like I won’t support liberal Hollywood, I for damn sure will “ALWAYS” root against the Pittsburg Steelers.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I am.

Not one of the QB's you mention would have his stats if they had his line. We already know what happens when Brady and Manning face an intense pass rush in a high-stakes game: they lose. Peyton's loss is particulary instructive, since the "Spotty Roethlisberger" outperformed him in that game. Drew's QB rating is not much different from Ben's. We'll see how durable Rogers is over time.

But not only would I would put Roethlisberger "along side" them, I would not trade Ben for any of them. And neither would Mike Tomlin.

Who are the “Pittsburg” Steelers?

Who cares? I tend to separate sports from politics. If not, how does one enjoy life?

He’s an Ambassador, a State Department employee, reports to the SOS. He’s the beneficiary of crony Obama nepotism. And Chairman of the Steelers. A win for the Steelers is a win for Obama.

Well. You got me there. I admit it is inconsistent to be a conservative and root for NY/NJ teams and against Texas teams.

If Adrian doesn’t get MVP, I give up on pro football.

or a solid running back could pick up the slack (or even lead the team) when the quarterback fails.

Remind me again what Morris did when RG3 proved mediocre?

Are you kidding?! Allen spelled it out in the play by play. Dive for five and try the field goal, Vikings win.

That's not a cabinet level position. Keep dodging.

Liar.

He's also not the CEO:

Kevin S. McClatchy
Chief Executive Officer and Managing General Partner, Pittsburgh Steelers Sports, Inc.

Liar.

Root against Blue State teams. It’s remarkably satisfying.

The best season the Cowboys ever had was 1989, they went 1-15.

I'm kind of fond of the 1960 season, 0-11-1.

I guess I’ll take “lucky” over losing. Usually the team that scores more points in a single game wins that game and style doesn’t count. Last time I checked, they won two of the last five super bowls against pretty stiff competition too, including the Cowboys.

I admit that if the Cowboys could execute, maybe the story would be different. The NFL playoffs have always been about getting hot at the right time and getting a few breaks and the ball has never rolled their way, thems the breaks. It’s the new reality in the cap era.
If thinking they were “lucky” helps you sleep at night, well stick to it. You need to start blaming the Cowboys for what the Cowboys can’t do because they could have been in the same place if it weren’t for a missed kick and an errant pass and a few turnovers.
I actually ran around my neighborhood placing Dallas stars on my neighbor’s cars (known redskins fans)but they lost to a gimpy QB and a depleted defensive line so...

They probably aren’t going to leave Green Bay with a win, in my mind. And it pains me to say that.

However, the way to vote for MVP is to take the player away from his team and see where they finish. The Broncos still win a weak division without Manning.

Without Peterson, the Vikings finish in Division I-AA.

This is a coaching problem, not a quarterback problem.

It's a lack of talent problem. The defense sucks and the OL isn't much better. Football is still about blocking and tackling.
