With just a week left in the month, Windows 8’s usage uptake has slipped behind Vista’s at the same point in its release, data from a Web measurement company showed.
According to Net Applications, Windows 8’s online usage share through Dec. 22 was 1.6% of all Windows PCs, an uptick from 1.2% of November. Windows 8 publicly launched on Oct. 26. At the same two-month mark in Vista’s release timetable, that OS accounted for 2.2% of all Windows systems, double the month prior. …

Even numbered Windows releases are terrible
My computer crashed and I needed a quick replacement so bought a cheap laptop with Windows 8. I absolutely despise taking familiar landscapes away from me to “force” me to adopt the new design (yahoo mail take note).
Windows 8 is New Coke.
If I wanted over-sugared, watered down pepsi, I would have bought a pepsi, let some ice melt in it, and put a few packs of sugar in it.
And. If I wanted an operating system that’s impossible to work on, I wouldn’t have bought a windows system. Microsoft has never held a claim to technical superiority. Their major market benefit is familiarity. When you blow off the very reason why your customers choose you, it can’t be very surprising that the result is lower usage.
Windows 8 is garbage. It doesn’t matter what new-fangled crap they put in it if it’s so damn impossible to navigate.

But for desktop PC’s?
Forget about it.
No one is going to upgrade a desktop PC to get “Touch.”
I've had “Touch” and a wireless mouse for 12 months.
I experimented for two days with “Touch.”
Ridiculous - a mouse takes less effort, less thought, less time, and you don't have finger smears all over your screen.
And no one is going to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 unless it offers a clearly superior video experience, which it does not.
I've got Windows 7.
Not one problem in 12 months.
Why would I change?
I’ve had Windows 8 for two weeks now. It is hard to figure out. Some of the processes are not intuitive. Usually I can figure out actions by clicks and keyboard shortcuts; it’s not working with “8”
If I did not have twin monitors I would have trashed 8 within a week.
I get the feeling that 8 is made for touch screens. I can visualize how it would interrelate between phones, pads and a touchscreen computer. Also, it has some good design features if you’re an email, texting, twitter or facebook fiend.
If you’re a small business owner who does not use those programs, save your money and stick with 7. If I cannot figure out some issues, I’ll be reformatting and returning to 7 soon. 7 worked beautifully; I thought 8 would be better. It’s not. It’s different.
Have you tried reverting from the METRO interface to the standard? If so, how radically different is 8 from 7? I am currently using Windows Phone 8 and like it, but I would not want it on a standard laptop. On a tablet or a nicely designed touch screen interface, it would be a tossup.
I’ve had Win-7 Pro on all of my PCs, since ‘09, and have OEM disks from my IT guys. I’ll stay w/ 7.

Yes and Windows 8 sucks, looks as if it was designed by graduates from Los Angeles Public Schools, bought new laptop yesterday, came with Win8, and it Would let me install Linux or Windows7 so I took it back and exchanged it for the last one they had that came with Win7, Installed Ubuntu and all is good. If you ask me They screwed the Pooch on this one and hopefully Secure Boot will piss off enough people to actually knock Microsoft off of their tyrannical pedastel. I was not the only one returning computers because of Win8, lets just hope it cathces on.

I use Vista too. My machine came with Windows 7, but after reading several articles on comparing the systems, I downgraded to Vista 64bit. I use many very large files and Vista handles large (10GB+) files better than any of the other systems. Windows 7 was optimized for file handling while Windows 7 was optimized for the graphical user interface. I made my decision when I tried to use the Windows 7 virtual PC system. The boys at Microsoft took stuff out of the virtual machine that was there with Vista and I was used to it. I do have to admit, Vista’s GUI sucks big time, but I can use it and that’s aboout it.
Ordered a new Dell the other day - with Windows 7!

I’m a Mac guy, and I have been, forever.
I do have a Windows installation on an NTFS drive in my Mac Pro, and I have run XP, Vista, and Windows 7 on that drive since 2003.
Windows 7 is quite useable, much more so than XP or Vista. From what I’ve seen of Windows 8, it seems like a downgrade. Time will tell.
