The woman walked behind the man along the platform, mumbling to herself, witnesses told the police, before shoving him into the path of a northbound No. 7 train just after 8 p.m.
It is the second time this month that a man has been killed after being pushed onto the subway tracks.

If it’s rush hour and you stand against the wall, you’ll never get on the train. Sometimes there’s only room for two or three more people on the train, so that’s why people stand near the edge. They want to get to work on time.

What is going in in NYC. I have never heard of incidents like this in other major cities with subway systems. I remember one of these in Phila, probably around 20 or 25 years ago. I used to commute by train there all the time, and that incident taught me to always be aware when I'm on the platform.

Forty years ago my Aunt and Uncle, both Blind, rode the Subways without incident.
One time my Uncle, who could only see shadowy movement, ventured too close to the end of the Platform with my his Wife, who is completely Blind, right behind him.
My Uncle tumbled on the tracks, letting go of my Aunt’s hand before she followed him off the edge. She knew what happened, don’t know how, but she knew and started screaming for help.
In an instant, two MEN jumped in after him and lifted him back onto the Platform, saving his life. I shudder to think what would have happened to my Uncle in today’s Society.

Years ago on a Bill Cosby album there was a story titled “A Nut In Every Car”. He was talking about the NYC subway system. Youtube I think has it LOL.

What I don’t understand, the more heinous the crime the more
likely the suspect will be judged insane and sent to some
asylum. To me if he/she is able to do a crime, they must
have a working brain. They are the most dangerous of all
criminals. They should be the first to be put to sleep.

It happens in Toronto occasionally, IIRC the last such incident was about 20 years ago. Same scenario- a mentally disturbed individual shoved a woman without warning. Fortunately there was no train and she got away OK.

How dare you speak about my mother that way! She has just as much right to be in Union Square as you do.

Bloomberg , Obama and Fienstein and other democrats should also ban the ground as 1000’s of Americans fall on the hard ground and die each year( that's more than are killed by mass shooters who are seeking the fame and immortality the media gives them). All people should now crawl as standing might cause falling /s

on a serious note, is this because of the release of many mental asylum people in the 80s?

in Hong Kong and Japan, due to the number of suicides, they have glass walls that separate the platform from the tracks until the train comes in -- the doors in the glass walls exactly match the doors of the train and these open simultaneously.
I think in the 80s there was a general release of mental asylum folks and now most are just sent home with meds unless they are "violent" -- and that seems to be unless they kill..

Isn't it time for the Democrat party to do something about mental illness in this country? How many more people have to die?

If its rush hour and you stand against the wall, youll never get on the train...I don't live or work in NYC so few of my subway trips are during rush hour. But I would think that standing away and then approaching...cautiously...as the train is slowing to a stop would be a plan.
My basic attitude toward NYC was nicely summed up by Lilly Tomlin on Saturday Night Live..."New York is always knowing where your purse is".
