Republican House Speaker John Boehner said on Thursday that he would take any recommendations from Vice President Joe Bidens anti-gun violence commission under advisementbut stopped well short of committing to allow the House of Representatives to vote on gun-control measures.
When asked at a press conference if he would permit the House to vote on proposals from Bidens commission, which began work on Thursday and is expected to unveil its advice in January, he said: Well certainly take them into consideration. We join the president in mourning the victims of that horrible tragedy in Connecticut. When asked again, he said they will take them under "advisement."
Biden's commission is also expected to look at other ideas, such as increasing access to mental health care, and look at the place of violence in American popular culture. But, for now at least, Boehner's comments suggest that traditional gun-control proposals aren't going anywhere.

He should say that he will consider bringing it up after Harry Reid brings forward a budget.
Boner better just say “no.”
That's why these kids got shot.
Best bet is to push this down Biden's throat.

I think on an issue like this, he needs to carefully consider his constituency. Ohio has a large population of extremely conservative firearms enthusiast. Though they are most concentrated in the rural districts, they still make up enough of Boehner’s base that he has to consider them.
Of course he won’t. Would you?
For once Boehner has dome something intelligent.
Boehner and the Republicans need to man up and stand up for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Knock off that “reach across the aisle to the commies” BS. That’s not reaching across the aisle, it’s called surrender.
I would have gone a step further and committed to not allowing gun control to come up for a vote. Then again, by playing it this way, he has rekindled many a fire in many a belly. He better be careful that fire doesn’t burn out of control though.
Sorry, but bonehead will wimp out.
It is his sorry and inglorious tradition.
It isn’t up to Bohner much as the last vote on the fiscal cliff. Bohner doesn’t have the votes. Just let Obama take us over the cliff and dream about inroads to the 2a another day.
He won’t.
He got played on the fiscal cliff, and has little wiggle room. A nice non committal response is the best we can hope for.
In the end though, I expect a grab, not just a ban. The left has the wind at their backs, and wants to push their agenda as far as they can. Boehner and the GOPe leadership are looking to re-brand themselves, and I expect this issue to be on they are looking at dumping.
By all of the actions since the election, the only group they will go to the mattress for is the wealthy. Which is ironically the only group in their base which they can afford to anger some.
There is a reason 0 dumped the gun issue into Bumbling Biden’s lap...because if it fails he can cast the blame onto his resident idiot.
Let him bring it to the floor for a vote so we can see who votes for it.
No, the wealthy have seen the writing on the wall by now. They need us as much as we need them. We must all hang together or we’ll most assuredly all hang separately. Boehner needs to rebuild the coalition-bring us together-not kill us off with the death of a thousand cuts.
I look more towards a Presidential Edict given the current resident of the White Hut.
I don’t see that happening. I would follow West into the bowel’s of hell though.
I hope Boehner knows just how close we are to a series of unfortunate events. It would be imprudent to infringe on our God-given right to keep and bear arms when tyranny is such an immediate threat to our freedom and to our lives. He should just say “no” to a vote on this unconstitutional power grab.
