The previous Jack Reacher threads are quite informative and can be found by clicking on the jackreacher keyword.
For those of you who are new to this discussion, 5'7" Tom Cruise used his influence to land the role to play author Lee Child's 6'5" anti-hero, Jack Reacher (Cruise is also a producer). Lee Child is OK with this. He says Cruise is a great actor and Reacher's size is a metaphor for an unstoppable force. Whatever.
I've watched the trailers and I don't see Jack Reacher, I see Tom Cruise.
Keep in mind that the majority of the people who will see this movie have never read or probably even heard of the books.
Anyway, the movie, based on the novel One Shot, goes into general release today. The reviews are coming in and they are mixed.

Guess I’ll have to read the book now.
I’ve read all of Lee Child’s Reacher novels and there is absolutely no way I will see this drek of a movie. Reacher is not a metaphor. Lee Child created a character and he is the basis for all his books. Lee Child was bought out by Cruise. I saw “From Paris With Love” staring John Travolta. Now he would have made a great Reacher.
Good luck getting it from a library. You’ll probably be 20 or 30 on the waiting list.
As a friend of mine from college used to say: “Hey, did you guys ever see that one Tom Cruise movie? You know, the one where he plays the cocky young guy?”
Don’t you think that whatever movie Tom Cruise is in, people see Tom Cruise, not his character? In the MI movies, I was only vaguely aware of “Ethan Hunt” but always aware that it was Tom Cruise on the screen.
Hugh Jackman would have been good.
Jason Stratham who did the “Transporter” films.
Funny. I just went on the waiting list for the first Jack Reacher novel. According to the author, this movie is taken from the 9th book in the series called "One Shot". I also reserved a copy of that one too. The Los Angeles public library is pretty good about getting copies too.
Or as they’ve done before is to have a black guy play the part of a white guy in the original movie. Will Smith for instance in Wild Wild West.
He’s not young anymore. He’s a 50 year old homosexual scientologist dwarf.
Or Liev Schreiber. Or pretty much anyone but Tom Cruise.

I read One Shot. Actually twice because sometimes you miss something on the first go-round. I remember I read about the book first coming out in a couple of months so I immediately got on the list. I was #42.
Ps. I thought Wanted Man was a disappointment.
I just started reading it last night.
Now if only they could do a proper Agent Pendergast Movie and casting.
THAT just about says it all.
You pointed out there are multiple threads. So why start a new one? You didn’t offer anything new.
