NEW YORK – “Storage Wars” may have a real war brewing with one of its stars.

Dave Hester , one of the show’s cast members, has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the show, according to RadarOnline.

In his lawsuit, Hester is claiming the series is fake, and he says when he made complaints to the network about the staged portions of the show he was fired, Radar reported.

"A TV show is fake?
Hang on, is any of them NOT fake?"

If people are surprised that "reality TV" is staged,
wait until they get a real whiff of network TV "news"!

“Guess you never heard of overhead or cost of doing business. I’ve been in the shop, you?”

Seems like you think having visited the shop makes you some kind of pawn expert. Thats pretty funny. I understand the cost of business and that these guys try to double their money or better on every exchange. That wasnt the point. I was questioning someone accepting a lowball offer when they know the item is worth alot more. Either they need the money fast or are too lazy to sell it themselves.

To those people saying every unit the bidders acquire has hidden gems, you only have to watch Barry’s acquisitions to know that’s not true. Most of Barry’s units yield only junk...which I’m sure most of the other units won by other bidders do as well. The way Brandi and Jarryd talked about their job, it sounded like it was a lot of hard work to make a few bucks. Very few treasures found.

Dave Hustler gone? Wow, might be worth watching the show again. The other “stars” have their quirks, but seem to be generally decent people. Hester is just obnoxious and boring.

He always “makes” money on his bids, especially when he is the one doing the appraising. When he goes to an expert, however, he always comes up a little short. Wonder why?

Ok, what about my all-time fav, Swamp People?

I don't think you can stage a wild gator in advance?

Or they don't have the time to market the item.....you just rebutted your own post quite well.

And it is a lot, not alot.

Dang. I was so excited to start watching the “real” show - Amish Mafia . . .

Sadly, Honey Boo Boo is all too real, and it even supported Obama.

And a lot of the treasures revolve around the buyer having that little piece of knowledge. The ability to know that isn’t just any ugly painting, it’s an ugly painting by a semi-famous guy with a following. And of course there’s tales like that all the time, yard sale masterpieces. You always have to wonder how many treasures wind up in the landfill because the wrong person got... which of course is part of how these treasures get made. Anybody in a collectible business knows the more people that think something is collectible the less it really is because that means fewer items get thrown out so they don’t become rare.

I used to go to police auctions. The Santa Monica police auction was my favorite. Why? Because the cops themselves conducted the auctions and they were TERRIBLE at it. They knew nothing about MOVING an auction along. Like they would conduct bids sometimes in 25 cent increments. Okay, so why did I like it? Because they tended to auction crappy stuff and bicycles first. HOURS would go by in the process but I was ready since I brought lots of reading material with me. Then, late in the afternoon, after most bidders wandered away due to boredom, they got to the good stuff like stolen guitars. Once I picked up an ES175 Gibson for just 80 bucks.

Oh there’s a lot of staging on Swamp People, mostly camera work. How do you think they get those “gator eye view” of the shooters?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a situation where the expert valued the item in the $5000 range and the Pawn Stars guy offered them $400. They usually a little less than half—and in some cases a little more than half.

Of course, in real life, if a guy walked into a pawn shop and only asked $400 for his $5K widget, the broker would never bring in an expert and most likely bargain him down to $200 or so.

“And it is a lot, not alot.”

I never would have guessed that you were the sort to point out spelling and grammar errors in a forum like this. Usually only pedantic twerps do that and you certainly don’t fall into that category.

I think the auctions are real, but the show plants certain items in the unit before they unload it.

There was an article about Barry in the first season and it came out (not from Barry) that items were planted and it's scripted. Dave stayed on the show all this time and is suddenly worried about fakery? Sounds a lot like the kid Jake on Two and a Half Men suddenly claiming that show is filth.

I'd sort of figured the price of auctions would rise to ridiculous highs causing the regular buyers serious hurt.

Like it makes sense to abandon a storage locker with $8000 worth of equipment rather than pay the storage fee or removing the valuable items first.

There was a female soldier who returned from Afghanistan only to find the military hadn't paid for her storage unit as had been pre-arranged and everything she owned had been auctioned off. There was a thread on FR a while back.
