I recall a talk show caller stating that while at the USS Arizona Memorial she heard a teenage visitor say that the Japanese attack was understandable and was in retaliation for us bombing them with nuclear weapons.

The USS Ward (DD-139) instigated the attack by firing on and sinking a Japanese submarine just outside of Pearl Harbor. The Japanese retaliated by attacking Pearl Harbor a couple of hours later.
