Pregnant Kate Middleton could very well be carrying twins, medical experts have commented - because the duchess is suffering from acute morning sickness.
Duchess Kate is currently being treated in hospital for the ailment, otherwise known as hyperemesis gravidarum a condition which is more commonly associated with women who are carrying twins.
Now rumours are rife that the royal, who is married to Prince William, could be carrying not just one baby, but two.
But if Kate is indeed carrying twins we wont know for a good few weeks yet. In fact the duchess isnt even at the 12-week gestation period yet, with Kate and William believed to have taken the unusual decision to announce the pregnancy so early because of her admission to hospital.
Kate remains in King Edward VII Hospital in London today, with her husband Prince William by her side, as she continues to be treated for hyperemesis gravidarum. The rare condition, which can cause dehydration and vomiting, is usually treated with the administration of intravenous fluids and anti-sickness medication.
Some women suffer with acute morning sickness up to around 20 weeks gestation but it is hoped that Kate won't suffer as badly and will be able to leave hospital in the next few days, albeit while taking bed rest at home.
Baby rumours have flown about for months now, with royal watchers noting that the duchess was spotted drinking water out of a wine glass during her and Williams South Seas trip, as well as sporting a slightly fuller figure and face which all pointing towards a possible pregnancy.
In reality everyone has been waiting for the news ever since Kate Middleton married Prince William on April 29 2011.
But it was not until yesterday (December 3) at 4.01pm that the happy news was confirmed, with a statement issued by St Jamess Palace, which read: Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby.
The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news.
The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum. As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter.
As a father of twins, let me say just how crucial that 4 minutes is to them!

Congratulations papa, what a double joy
As a father of twins too I STRONGLY concur
Or if Scotland leaves the Union with England I guess one could be come King of Scotland (but the you still have the House of Stuart to contend with)
I just pray the Duchess stays healthy.
Hopefully it will at least cut down the daily number of Kardashian stories.

I am already dreading how much we are going to have to hear about this over the next 8.3 months.....ugh.
Yessss!!
If they are twins, and if one is a boy and one is a girl (that's a lot of IFs) I wonder if the palace will have a quiet chat with the doctor a week or so before the birth and indicate that the official order of birth shall be Boy - Girl.
Yes, a girl born first would legally take the throne, but it would be an odd precedent. If (officially) the Boy is considered to have been born first, then there is no issue or hard feelings down the line.
Blindfold the doctor and have him grab the first one that sticks a foot up.
I had twins and had no morning sickness, never threw up. I know lots of women with singletons who had acute morning sickness. In fact, I would say most women had more morning sickness than me.
Funny you say 4 minutes. I have twin siblings - a brother and sister My brother came out 4 minutes before my sister. My sister jokes saying she kicked him out.
hum? That is interesting.
Yes, the rules have been changed, but it would be easier for the first time this happens by not complicating it with twins where the girl is born first.
I am guessing there is a good chance she is carrying multiples, because of how sever her morning sickness is and the older you get the greater the chances of twins.
I wish her well, I can’t imagine being pregnant under a royal microscope.
I had severe morning sickness with all four of my kids and not a twin amongst them. (And my father was a twin, so I was hoping for twins.)
All this conjecture is just a way to sell newspapers. I wish her an uneventful pregancy and a safe delivery and a healthy child.
They are 16 year old girls, and they are hardly a joy lately, but thank you nonetheless. :)
My husband came out 12 hours after his twin sister. My poor mother-in-law.
Younger or older than you? Did they have their own form of communication, their own kind of language?
Lots of fun, isn’t it? Did yours have their own weird language or any kind of telekinesis? Mine did when they were younger, and some weird things when one was living with mom and the other me, but not crazy weird stuff.
