I typed yahoo.com into address bar a couple of time, and kept getting directed to http://www.yahoo.akadns.net/ with some error message page. Tried accessing yahoo by a google search, and same thing. It's working okay now but curious about an explanation for the glitch. Thanks for any insight folks can offer.
Bookmark the correct ‘Yahoo’ and you’re set. You might have a virus or ad tracker spam crap. I would run SuperAntiSpyware or Malwarebytes program to check for bugs.
So....
what did The Internet say?
Your hosts file may be compromised.
You’re redirected to one of Yahoo’s data centers - one that is close to your location and has low traffic. Akadns (Akamai DNS) is the service provider which manages the redirection decisions.

Thanks for all the advice from folks. The Yahoo data center answer makes sense but I’m tunning malwarebytes just to make sure no bugs. I’ve often noticed that when I mistype the address for drudgereport I get re-directed to parasite sites, and it was odd to get redirected when I had double-checked to make sure I was correctly typing yahoo.com! Thanks again everybody.
You have been infected with the akadns virus.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THIS BY YOURSELF.
I have Freepmailed you my PayPal address. After I receive the $500.00 I will send you instructions on how to remove this dreaded virus.
Check your primary, secondary and tertiary dns server settings.
Remember the worm/hack whatever from a while back ?
It changed the IP addresses the OS was using for dns (getting the right IP for a domain name) to a “bad server”, that returned the bad guy’s IP where he was hosting lookalike sites that grabbed passwords, etc.
If the user, in their browser, navigated to say, www.mybank.com, they’d be actually looking at a man-in-the-middle server.
That particular attack is supposed to be over at this point (government took over the bad guy’s bad servers and fixed them). But man-in-the-middle attacks are not over.
Just check with your internet provider to find out what IPs they want you to point at as your dns nameserver, and make sure windows is pointing at them.
I’m not the guy to ask about how to do that in windows.
Are you POSITIVE you were logged in?
FDISK before it’s too late.
That’s cold :-)
You were probably shopping for an akadns. I think Amazon had them with free shipping on Cyber Monday.
Just kidding. If you google akadns you’ll see what others have run into.
Looks like you were just temporarily rerouted due to server overload or problems.
I am being directed to “click” or “ad” after I try to go to certain sites, and then the page is blank.
My sister isn’t a moose.
Thanks for your help!
