My husband, along with some of his fellow Rotary members, takes his turn ringing the bell for SA each Christmas season. Maybe Rotary and other service organizations in your community could be tapped for bell ringers?
We have supported SA for years. They do good work in the community. I will never ever give a dime to Red Cross or United Way. In this tough economy, we don't have a lot to give, but SA, Toy for Tots, and Disabled Veterans get all of whatever we can give. I trust those organizations.

I am reading "Life of Pi" in anticipation of seeing the movie later this week. Has anyone here read the book? I am a little beyond the midway point and should finish it this evening. I had heard that the book glorified (or at least promoted) Islam, but I have not gotten that message from the book. Neither have I gotten the feeling that Hinduism has been promoted, or Christianity for that matter. IMO, none of the religions have been elevated above the others. It is actually not a book about religion, it is just a beautiful story of the faith and fortitude of a sixteen year old Indian boy and his struggle for survival against all odds. If it is on your reading list, move it to the top. I think you won't be sorry.
One caution; Pi's description of his survival at sea is quite graphic. The very squeamish will need to skim some parts, I'm sure.
Here is the trailer for the movie. It made me cry and I am not sure why. I am sure I will cry through the whole movie!

Thanks for the review, Lori. I’m sure this will be a good movie and I hope I can get the chance to see it. It is at the theatre, isn’t it? I don’t get to the movies too often but you have made this one very tempting (even with the tears). I like something that is recommended highly. Thanks for informing us!! Haven’t laid down yet but am getting ready to. Its so good to have you here, Lori! Reminds me of the good old days!

That is so cute, Meg. Thank you so much! I truly am going to lie down now....the back hasn’t let up yet. I just rubbed some soothing cream on it and after a rest, it will be better.
I keep a nice wooden spoon in the bathroom just for rubbing stuff on my back. I just take the back of the spoon and get a little dip of the cream until I have it covered all over. It was a prescription cream and I’m about to run out of it. I got it from a skin doctor and it is wonderful. Seems to have some menthol in it which soothes and cools your back.

Life of Pi is playing this week at our local theater. I don't go to movies often. We did go and see Atlas Shrugged Parts 1 and 2 and the Hunger Games, and I want to see this one, for sure. But I usually prefer to watch movies on DVD in the comfort of my own home. I just don't want to wait for the DVD release in order to see this. I think it is going to be spectacular.
Since we've been going to a few movies this past year, what a shock to find what it costs! By the time you get through with purchasing the tickets and a drink and popcorn you're up to $25 - $30 for two people. Then, if you add dinner on top of it, you have an expensive evening out. That is why we don't do it often. Microwave popcorn, a can of diet coke and my recliner are just fine with me. ;-)

Take care of your back, jaycee....and you too, MEG. :-)

I thoroughly agree, Lori! It doesn't take long for the movies to come for rental and there's no place like home for movie watching IN COMFORT!!
