Take 5 Minutes to See What the Moon Will Do During 2013
Universe Today ^ | 20 November, 2012 | NANCY ATKINSON

This new video shows exactly how the Moon will look to us on Earth during the entire year of 2013. While the Moon always keeps the same face to us, it’s not exactly the same face. Because of the tilt in its axis and shape of its orbit, we see the Moon from slightly different angles over the course of a month, and the year. Normally, we don’t see how the Moon “wobbles” in its orbit or as it moves closer and farther away from Earth. But seeing the entire year compressed down to 5 minutes, we can see the changes in libration, and axis tilt — as well as the most noticeable changes, the Moon’s phases.

Okay, I got bored and jumped to the end, lol, but the video helped me to realize that sometimes the moon is closer during a full moon and sometimes it isn't! That could explain some discrepancies/cycles we've discussed on our other thread. :)

Perhaps NASA needs to refine their new approach to lunar exploration a little more.

I take your moon and raise you the most spectacular comet ever in late 2013:

Yup, nature does enjoy messing with our perceptions now and again.
Just about everything has a wobble and elliptical seems to rule.
Nothing can be simple :)

Great catch!

Captured it as a hi-def MP4 for playback — each hour during the year is represented by one frame of the video.

The ultimate Lunar reference...

Yep, you've certainly got me beat with ISON, I think! lol

We have to wait and see but possibly the greatest comet encounter, as for size, in recorded history!

Thanks for the pings! I intend to ping the APoD list, but I’m trying out this new (alleged) broadband, it’s wireless, cheap, prepaid, and most importantly available here in The Boonies. Took three frickin’ hours to get it set up. Drops / fails to load pages, but I think that has more to do with the five long d/ls running in the background, browser updates and such. Anyway, to make a short story long, the lists are on the other machine. ;’)

I like cheese but don't trust the green kind (or "Moonies" either).

Shame on the Moon
