The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread ... there is no telling where it will go and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

I picked all the tomatoes on the vine prior to a hard frost. I have planted some of the raised beds with rye. Hubby has planted some winter wheat.
Have a great weekend. God Bless.
Pinging the list.
Pinging the list.
Sure wish we had your temps..
Has fist 6” of snow early last week - gone now...temps in low 40’s during the day...
All beds are tucked in and the Rosemary (tough to grow here is still growing and green - will use some for the turkey this thanksgiving).
Hope this finds all well...
Freshly picked rosemary is wonderful stuff!
Can you add me to the ping list?
Just harvested the last of our brussel sprouts. All the raised beds were tilled and covered. Now all things gardening are relegated to the seed catalogues until Spring!
I have my rosemary planted next to a retaining wall facing south west, and covered with a row cover. I’ll run out and grab some on Thanksgiving Day to use.
I tried growing it indoors one year - it did not work.
You’ve been added.
I am ordering seeds now for the essentials.
Tried indoors as well with no luck...
My in-laws, who used to live in Lake Havasu, used rosemary for landscaping....it grew like weeds. When we went to visit, would always use rosemary in cooking for them...kinda wish I’d brought a bunch back to dry and use later....
Temps here about 60 and 36 or 37 at night for the last few nights. No frost yet. Warmer temps coming on Sun night.
We are ready to rip out the remains of the garden and get a soil test done so that we can go ahead and make whatever changes we need for next year and put the '12 garden to bed. Of course, the ghost peppers are a different story, they are in pots and are babied, looking forward to next spring when we expect them to be large enough to have some peppers on them. I have the back porch ready for the container plants and hanging baskets this winter, the grow lights hung from the ceiling and connected to a timer. That worked out well for us last year. Our container plants looked the best that they ever have using the grow lights.
We hope that you have a happy Thanksgiving day.
No gardening news, but here is a garden-related topic. Justadumbblonde will appreciate this:

I am jealous of your back porch. Wish we had one too. LOL
Thanks for the link. Have you heard from JADB?
When I lived in California, I had a rosemary bush that grew out by my back steps. Whenever I made spaghetti, I’d hop out the back door and pick a nice brig sprig, rinse it off, and strip the leaves into my sauce. One day my 3rd child saw me do that and had a fit. She wouldn’t eat spaghetti for a long time, accusing me of putting sticks into the sauce.
Rosemary is strictly an annual around here (Wisconsin). An it doesn’t work to bring it into the house for the winter. It never survives. I’m always tempted by those darling little topiaries that they sell in the spring, but without a green house to keep them, I’m just throwing my money away.
No, I haven’t. I thought that some of you would know where she has been.
Anyone with any spare time might want to see if you can get a ‘victory garden’ rolling for your town or local church to help provide produce for the people who are going to be suffering thru 2013...
I have not heard a word for the months since she posted the last thread. I haven’t heard from anyone else that they have heard from her either. Just hoping she is OK.
Her last post seems to be August 10th...
