I have been to the local mall and to several retailers this past week and I'm wondering what sort of numbers we will see this year for Black Friday. Have there been any forecasts on what retailers are expecting? I know that there is so much uncertainty right now economically and socially, how will that translate into our willingness to purchase this year? Will we have a last "Hurrah!" or will we simply set on the sidelines and await the coming "Whateverthehellisgoingtohappennext"?
IPad or Asus Transformer ?
Exactly. I did “Cyber Monday” last year and did my entire Christmas shopping task in 10 minutes with the click of a mouse. Best decision I ever made.
Ya, the fighting and violence are sad side effects of this black Friday mayhem.
Last year, some woman pepper sprayed other shoppers to get an X Box. I wonder if we will see anything like that again.
I agree. It’s kinda nice have UPS drive up and drop off your purchases. It sort of reminds me of mail call back in the Army of the 1970’s. Mail call was such a great event when you got something.
I expect so. If anything, the “entitlement mentality” will be even more widespread this year.
I never participate. I may do some shopping at a local venue..but it will be very little this year. Why bother with Black Friday? we’ll only be treated to another view of TV and media coverage on the tramplings. I’m done with it.
It is indeed.
I’ll be giving family and friends emergency prep kits and other supplies.
Ipad of course
The quality level of slave labor is definitely a selling factor. You don’t have to worry about getting a bad one made on a Monday or Friday.
News story this morning stated that luxury sales over the last year are up but middle and low income retailers are down. I predict that either there will be an increase from last year due to large luxury purchases by a few or there will be millions of people Christmas shopping at the dollar tree and the media will tout increased “volume”. Either way, the media will spin pro obama, and if the numbers can’t be spun they will be minimized and unexpected.
Depends on the discounts. I wouldn’t be shocked to see a single good day, with a lot of other purchases withheld for the rest of the month, as people try to get what they can while it’s cheap.
Hard to argue with Chief Dan George
They say that a lot of wealthy people are selling assets this year and they will have the option of spending that new income— could be good for jewelers, boating, and tourism industries.
Is that what they’re calling capital flight these days?
I like going out to eat on that day though...
required gift giving is not fun...I hate it...I’d much rather have a little present in the middle of a no name month for no reason whatsoever except someone thought I might like it...
The kids are getting a whole week off school this year.... isn’t that a bit much? Parents will be nuts after 9 days of it...
11.
Record highs followed by record January returns as people realize it’s all junk.
