Humans may be gradually losing intelligence, according to a new study.
The study, published today (Nov. 12) in the journal Trends in Genetics, argues that humans lost the evolutionary pressure to be smart once we started living in dense agricultural settlements several thousand years ago.
"The development of our intellectual abilities and the optimization of thousands of intelligence genes probably occurred in relatively non-verbal, dispersed groups of peoples [living] before our ancestors emerged from Africa," said study author Gerald Crabtree, a researcher at Stanford University, in a statement.
Since then it's all been downhill, Crabtree contends.

Our spoiled society is suffering from intellectual atrophy. People who are coddled womb to grave don’t have to think, so they don’t.
The average IQ of those working at NR is even lower.
It certainly explains the election results.
Look at the world IQ maps over time, keeping migration and interbreeding in mind, and you may have the very politically incorrect answer as to why it is happening.
It makes perfect sense. Natural selection is no longer allowed to be a factor, so stupid people (and their genes) are given artificial opportunity to survive. The US is probably leading the pack in diluting the gene pool.
The decline, however, was already clear from the early 20th Century.

Yup, proof was on Nov. 6, 2012.
The free and literate were high IQ, the top 20-30% of society. The slaves, generally not literate or part of recorded culture except in property lists, were the other 70-80%. An assessment of the literate class thus skews upward in IQ estimates. The low IQ just weren’t generating records for us to review later.
To be honest I feel for it in some way. I don’t want to be offensive but most people I see at workplace who are born post-1985 lacks intellectual integrity, motivation and work ethics.
