I'll go first. Mine was Richard Nixon 1972. I felt cheap and used. I wish I'd waited for a better man.
Ronald Reagan - 1984. Absolutely thrilled to do so. Haven’t been as thrilled to vote for any candidate since.
1980 for me.. John Anderson. Like you, Reagan grew on me.
‘76, and it was lousy. Voted Ford, got Carter. ‘Nuff said.
1984 for my personal hero, Ronald Reagan.
Little did I know that it would be the best vote I ever cast and likely ever will cast. I found out the hard way that there wasn’t a whole bullpen of Reagans waiting in the wings.
Now I’m not even a Republican. Haven’t been since 2007.
Like any guy I was inept and clumsy the first time but I learned. Thats why George McGovern is the only democrat I ever voted for.
Except my friend Jack running for school board but he’s a friend.
1968 - Richard Nixon. I felt proud to be able to vote.
1996 Dole. Blah.
I did it in St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church for R. Reagan in 1980. At the time you thought that American was going down the drain.
In 1976, my then 12 year old brother voted for Reagan in the Florida primary. My mother, torn between Ford and Reagan, had finally committed to Reagan. My rabidly pro-Reagan brother though anticipated the later Reagan maxim of “trust but verify” and insisted on accompanying her into the voting booth. The election clerk — our next door neighbor — allowed that as an educational experience, and my kind and wise mother let my brother pull the lever for Reagan.
John F. Kennedy
In those years, Texas was a Democrat state.
1980 - Reagan. Could not have been prouder.
I cried, I was by myself.
Oh, the first vote...
Clinton, ‘92, George Bush said “Read my lips, No New Taxes” so I wanted to throw his liein’ a$$ out. What a dumbass I felt like later.
1984 - President Ronald Reagan. It’s been downhill ever since.
Mine was also 1972. I was one of the first `18 year olds to vote. I wasted my vote on Carter, because i didn’t know any better back then.
Mine was Gerald Ford in 1976. Good thing Reagan showed up in ‘80 and ‘84 so I’d know what it felt like to win these things.
We’re not here to shame.
We’ve all messed up. I myself once bought a Chevette.
