The conversation was about internet marketing and it was with my friend Jon Gibbon of armslist.com. Then out of the blue Jon asked me If you could only have one gun the rest of your life what would it be? Hmmm I guess it would be my Remington 870. I figured I could hunt big and small game, defend the home patch and nothing stops like a 12 gauge slug. You can stop a charging dump truck with a 12 gauge slug.
Then the conversation moved to: What would you take if you could only have five guns the rest of your life? Yes, I know this is America, and we have the luxury of owning as many guns as we would like. Im a person that gets a Christmas card from Ruger. I have four 30-06s and was disappointed that in 2006 there wasnt a parade in honor of its 100th anniversary.

Con Grats Don’t go BIG Gun crazy. If it is too big n’ heavy it will be the gun left behind. The Rugers LCP and LCR’s are a great starting place with Price and Size in mind. Don’t get caught up in the Mines Bigger Than Yours.
The Stats on street shootings are three rounds fired at about seven feet, time one and one-half seconds.
Easy.
Ruger 10/22
Mossberg 500 with assorted barrels.
M4gery
Quality bolt action .308
1911 pistol.
I have had a bunch of N frame Smiths. The most accurate one was probably an 8 3/8s inch barrel model 27. I bought it used but like new in 1982.
Probably my favorite one was a six inch model 29 which my dealer got in a batch of guns he bought from the sheriff’s dept. It had a broken rear sight and I got it for a song. I got it repaired at a gun show. The guy asked if he could use the concrete floor as an anvil and I told him to go ahead. That one was a sweetheart.
I also had a model 25 which I got around 1970. It came with the wood box and the cleaning gear. Actually of the maybe 25 I have owned, none was a lemon. Every single one had perfect range and the cylinder gap was usually around 2 thousandths.
Also had a .41 mag which probably would have been my favorite if .41 ammo was more popular.
I’m not sure who is putting whom on.
At least one of mine would be a 410 shotgun for indoor close-range home defense
It would ruin someone’s day without taking out any structural supports like a 12 guage might.
look for a hammerless 38+P like Ruger LCR or Taurus titanium w/pocket holster carried in the front pocket on your dominant hand side.
S&W 340pd is great, but more spendy.
Yeah, I have the wood presentation box as well.
I think I traded a couple of 9mm Semi’s for it. I think they were S&W as well, but they had some issues if I recall. It’s been at least 30 years and my memory isn’t what it used to be.
The other guns lost in the tragic boating accident (obviously a FReeper tradition - we must be paying a fortune in Boat Insurance) are/were an AR-15, 870 12 gauge, .22 Rifle and a little 9MM. Yeah, I am a rookie.
Good thing I didn’t have a 1911 when the “accident” happened, so it will be on the replacement wish list. LOL
Living in CA makes it difficult to replace them, really....
COUGH - COUGH...
“I’ll be needin’ this for squirrels and such.”

Don’t forget the .50 cal upper for the AR since you’re on a roll.
If I walked out of the shack with the .22 rifle and a lawn chair, the GoodDog(tm) would sit quietly next to me as the other dogs hared off to annoy the game and coy-dogs.
She was short-haired and skinny and didn't get enough store-bought food.
As I dozed off, she would nudge me if a ground-rodent showed up across the field. We had lots of them around.
I'd shoot, she'd eat and come back to sit, settle, stay for the next one.
Tree rodents there aren't worth eating like around here, as far as I'm concerned, but she thought highly of them, and would walk beside me for hours if I was up walking among the trees.

Thats a real nice story, you had yourself a good dog. You’re right about NM squirrels, they look too small to eat.
My grandpa told me the prarie dogs are good to eat; just that they are greasy. Which means all I need is a pinch of salt, a fire and a frying pan.Maybe potatoes =) And I know where to find em. Got that 22 rifle also.
I tried a NM squirrel once. I'm a culinary school graduate, and eat tree rats here off the property in Texas.
I wouldn't ever eat a NM tree rat again.
Maybe it's because of the pinon nuts or the pine cones or something.

Considering getting a SKS 7.62 for larger game and ‘predators’.
Any opinions or advice?
The SKS is probably one of the most dependable firearms ever made. I carried one for years behind the seat of my truck as a “ranch gun” for shoot’n coyotes, snake and such. the 7.62x39 is good out 4-500 yds. if the bolt freezes up just take your foot and kick on it and start shoot’n
if you can get a nice one for under $400 with some extra mags.I’ve had one for 25+ years. got it back when they were under $100 bucks every where.
i highly recommend replacing it with a Murry's Stainless Steel SKS firing pin WITH spring.
