Dear Friends:
The election is coming up on all of us and we all have strong feelings about it. I’ve been getting asked a lot about where I stand, so for those who are interested, here goes.
This presidential election is different than the last one because President Obama has a four year record to run on. Last time around, he carried with him a tremendous amount of hope and expectations. Unfortunately, due to the economic chaos the previous administration left him with, and the extraordinary intensity of the opposition, it turned into a really rough ride. But through grit, determination, and focus, the President has been able to do a great many things that many of us deeply support.
Domestically, that record includes working to increase and expand employment for all, protecting our all important social safety net, passing guaranteed health care for most of our citizens, with important new protections for all of the insured, rescuing the auto industry and so many of the American jobs that go with it, protecting and enhancing the rights of women, and bringing us closer to full acceptance of our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters.
In foreign affairs, that record includes following through on the removal of troops from the misguided and deceptive war in Iraq, and vigorously pursuing our real foreign enemies, especially the killing of Osama Bin Laden.
Right now the opposition’s resort to voter suppression in so many states is not receiving as much attention as it deserves. I believe that all of us, of whatever views, should be opposing these anti-voter, anti-citizen efforts.
Right now, for the President to be effective in his next term he needs our increased support and he needs support in the Congress, where some sterling candidates, such as current Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, challenger Elizabeth Warren in Massachusetts, and so many others, are fighting to make their constructive voices heard.
Right now, there is an ever increasing division of wealth in this country, with the benefits going more and more to the 1 percent. For me, President Obama is our best choice to begin to reverse this harmful development.
Right now, there is a fight going on to help make this a fairer and more equitable nation. For me, President Obama is our best choice to get us and keep us moving in the right direction.
Right now, we need a President who has a vision that includes all of our citizens, not just some, whether they are our devastated poor, our pressured middle class, and yes, the wealthy too; whether they are male or female, black, white, brown, or yellow, straight or gay, civilian or military.
Right now, there is a choice going on in America, and I’m happy that we live in a country where we all participate in that process. For me, President Obama is our best choice because he has a vision of the United States as a place where we are all in this together. We’re still living through very hard times but justice, equality and real freedom are not always a tide rushing in. They are more often a slow march, inch by inch, day after long day. I believe President Obama feels these days in his bones and has the strength to live them with us and to lead us to a country “…where no one crowds you and no one goes it alone.”
That’s why I plan to be in Ohio and Iowa supporting the re-election of President Obama to lead our country for the next four years.

A Lie - The lie celebrities always tell. “I’ve been getting asked a lot about where I stand” Really? By whom? Little Steven? Someone in the grocery store you don’t shop in because someone does your shopping for you? Nobody is asking Bruce Springsteen where he stands because A) Pretty much everybody knows, and B) Pretty much nobody cares.

We’ll skip ahead a little...

And Bugs Bunny singing our National Anthem while juggling balls of fire in the heart of Times Square is not getting as much attention as it deserves. Probably because it ALSO is not happening.

This one is true. All of these people want to finish or help him finish destroying America, and if they remain in or take power they might succeed. The good news is on election day we can see that they all join the ever-growing unemployment line.

Give me 10% of what you made on Born to Run alone, and I will see that nobody in this country ever goes hungry again. Or just shut up instead.

To the good people of Ohio and Iowa, I’m very sorry. But I’m also glad he won’t be in New Jersey for a little while. Please make him feel at home, so maybe he’ll stay there. He serves no purpose here. And his last few albums have stunk too.

In is prime, Seger had one of the most amazing voices in recorded music. Seger was as big as Springsteen, if not bigger, around 1978-1981. Bob never liked the fame, and started to walk back his career by the mid-80s. Then he quit for 11 years to raise his kids. Springsteen is the creation of the big east-coast media cause they could USE Bruce as a leftist mouthpiece.
As an "intellectual" - he's a high school dropout.
As an "everyman" - he's lived the life of a fabulously rich pampered rock star since Richard Nixon was president.
The River was written, recorded and released during Jimmy Carter’s presidency.
Same here, I never listened to his music.
There’s something just plain perverse about multimillionaires like Springsteen and Buffett lecturing the rest of us on the “unequal distribution of wealth” in this country. When are they going to pony up their own money as their contribution to equalizing the distribution of wealth? When is Springsteen going to sell his two palaces and his country estate and move into a tenement in Newark? Never, that’s when.

Except of course for Bruce. He’ll get to keep all his wealth because this everybody fair and equitable thing just doesn’t apply to him.
Not sure about the voting machines outside the venue—I do know that my relatives in Parma—traditional blue collar Dems who are social and fiscal conservatives in every sense of the word, are “disgusted” with BO, and were also saying how they were very unhappy with early voting being allowed. People here are fed up big time—as they should have been long ago. I might be wrong, but this year is very different than in the past.
As I said in another post, I’ve seen Romney signs where I’ve never seen GOP signs before—and how many more have chosen not to put a R/R sign out, worried that a “tolerant” lib might trash it or worse?
Bruce doesn't even understand HE is the 1 percent, and HE is the "best choice" to spread his OWN wealth around.
Yes, I believe you are right. Never thought about Mr. Seger and the “boss” at the same time, but you’re spot on with your observations.
The most amazing thing about this is that the combined celebrity firepower of Bruce Springsteen and Bill Clinton campaigning for Obama could attract only a ‘’crowd’’ of 3,000 in Parma, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland with a population of 81,000.
Not to mention the fact that Cuyahoga County, in which Parma resides, has a population of 1.2 million. The Cleveland football team, the Browns, manages to attract an actual crowd of 68,000 on average each week even during its current losing season.
Where, oh where, are the Obama supporters in Cuyahoga County? We know Obama has the support of the Black areas of Cleveland, but where is the blue-collar support?
If only 3,000 blue-collar voters in the big blue-collar suburb of Parma are willing to walk a few blocks to see the hero of blue-collar America, Bruce Springsteen, something is seriously wrong with the Obama campaign in Cuyahoga County, no matter what the polls may say.
Sorry Bruce....no use for your music,no use for your opinions or advice.
He has managed to assemble some great musicians into the E Street Band. Unfortunately, his songs suck.
My message to Bruce can be commuicated visually with one finger.
