How to Stockpile Antibiotics for Long Term Survival

A month or so ago, I happened to mention that I had purchased some antibiotics to stockpile for long term survival purposes. It’s not, you know, that I believe in popping antibiotics every time I get a sniffle. Nothing could be further from the truth. But a recent situation where I had a very bad tooth abscess that had to go untreated for almost a week convinced me that antibiotics for use in a collapse situation were an important part of my preps. Let me say this: I am not a health care professional nor am I especially qualified on all things health related. On the other hand, I do believe in medical self-care and I do believe in doing my own research. It was during that research that I learned that fish antibiotics are the exact same formula as human antibiotics. WTF? This was not casual research. I went to many sources, looked at bottles, and asked a lot of questions. I came away confident that lacking proper medical facilities, the judicious use of fish and veterinary antibiotics would be safe in a SHTF situation. And the best part about it? They are readily available online at reasonable prices without a prescription.

I guess if you know you are not allergic to sulfa then you don’t need to worry, but some people are.

Is penicillin a sulpha? If so, my husband is allergic.

I don’t think Sulfa and Penicillin allergies are connected but I am not an authority.

I don’t guess I gave any thought at all to your posts, I just wanted to make people aware of another possible allergic reaction to medicine.

Yes you can. Food Saver has a mason jar attachment that vacuum seals mason jars. For fine powdery foods I place a coffee filter (The brown unbleached type)in the top of the jar.

I can see having certain prescription drugs that are basically narcotics as controlled substances, but a lot of them that aren’t should be legal no questions asked.

I never WAS allergic to sulfa! Ever ever ever. Till one time...my body switched it’s little self around and out of the clear blue, in the middle of taking them....I had a horrible reaction to them.

No more for me.

Actually, the crux of the matter is this:

When you grant the Government the authority to regulate anything you as a willing adult put into your body they will regulate everything.

I see nothing in the Constitution granting them this power, whether the substance be food, water, or pharmaceuticals/herbals of any kind.

Anti biotics are available at the Tractor supply store if you live in the country...When I was raising goats my refrigerator looked like a doctors cabinet....Penicillin, tetracycline etc in liquid form for injections Ikept in the refrigerator....you really can use them past the stated date on the bottle...thats there by government fiat..they are good for at least a year pass date then start to lose their potency...bolus and pills kept in a dark cool place is fine. I use to have a vets catalog that I ordered all meds from...a penicillin jar may say for cattle, but its the same stuff your doctor gives...Most dosages are based on weight. Even had pepto bismoe for a goat with scours...(diarrhea) bought a gallon for a couple of bucks, never did use it all up. Most meds in the vet catalog are non prescription for animals but vaccines you need a script for and those vaccines are not for something a human might have.. You can even by sterile hypodermic needles from catalogs it use to be a box of 100 for under 10 dollars. Being a nurse that had given shots in the hospital, it was a breeze for me...Wish I still had one of those catalogs hanging around...

There are mysin drugs, both as injectable and salve...I cannot take it highly allergic, tetracycline is close chemically to erythomysin if you are allergic to one don't take the other. I found out the hard way when I was given a script for tetracycline..looked it up in a PDR Physicans desk reference. Keflex is another anti biotic, its been so long since I needed anti-biotics I forgot a lot of them..use to be a medicine nurse in the hospital....PS the expiration date is mandated by the government. But penicillin I am lucky and not allergic to...also sulfa tablets can bought via a catalogue.... Keep liquid meds in refrig. pills away from moisture, learn to give a shot if your going the liquid antibiotics. Its easy once you get over your fear of walking into a strangers bed in the hospital, tell them to turn over and give them a shot in the butt...after a few times its slam, bam, were done mam. you can find books on where to give shots, at the wrong place can be a disaster....

Antibiotics made for livestock are made to the same standards as those for human use. The packaging is different.

With tetracycline you’re OK until your ears start ringing, then you back off.

I have put both flour and rice in the foodsaver bags as well, with Oxygen absorbers.

They scrunch up into some odd shapes, and likely the flour will have to be sifted before use, but it works.

As always, store at a constant, and preferably cool temperature, and out of the sun. (I know you know this, but not everyone reading this thread might.)

The only drawback to the bags is that critters (rodents, especially) can ruin them fairly easily, so store the bagged stuff in a metal container (like those big popcorn tins you see this time of year) to keep them undamaged and in the dark.

The food saver bags are good, but they will eventually ‘breath’ and allow air in that’s why I use the canning jars and/or Mylar bags.

If your door is truly two quarter-inch steel plates, I suspect it’s impervious to any non-armor-piercing small-arms round.

Certainly impervious to any pistol round.

Thank you, granny! You’ve definitely given me a place to start. I appreciate it! I’m pretty sure I can give shots. I had gestational diabetes with baby #6 and had to give myself shots. I think that’s worse. LOL!

I looked at the end side of the door (end side where it closes) and could see the end of each plate, thought each plate was 1/4 inch, but measured it to be sure.
