My goal would be to jump start every century so that by the the time when Columbus would have discovered America instead Native Americans have already developed steam engines and an intercontinental railway and are about to achieve the first manned flight in an aircraft.

Let the Euroweenies fall to their knees knowing that in America the Indian tribes are over 200 years or more advanced than they are.

Hopefully an isolated superior advanced nation built soley upon native Americans like the Cherokee and such become the dominant rulers of the free world. Bigger than Britain or Germany, more powerful but not warmongers instead.

Laptop, alternator, copy of Encarta.

I’d use tools of the day to enable the alternator to be used as a charger for the laptop.

Probably the highest grade stainless steel knife I could find.
The best general purpose teflon pan. (big enough to make soups, also able to fry eggs)
An extra pair of shoes. (counting that as one item, I think that still fits the rules)

I'd have to give it a little more thought, but this is a difficult question because I'm not sure if I'm pre-supposing that other things already exist when I select my three items.

For example ... a Garmin GPS unit with a solar power supply would be a no-brainer to me, but am I assuming that there are satellites in orbit to make the Garmin work correctly?

1. A shirt
2. A pair of pants
3. A good pair of shoes

I didn’t know if clothes would be included in the trip. It wasn’t specified so I had to assume not.

Don’t wanna be caught naked in 8th century Europe.

I won’t conquer the world, or jumpstart the industrial revolution, but I will be able to earn a living at fifty and female.
