What do you all think about the Umberti recreation of the Schofield .45? For whatever reason, I love this gun, probably from watching too many westerns.
This is not particularly a self-defense gun, although I suppose the .45LC would not be pleasant to be shot with.
I just think it's cool and want to hang it in a holster in my cabin the the moutains to counter-act the crap my wife is hanging up, and occassionaly go cowboy shoot with it.

I always liked the look of the Schofield 45 LC. It is an American classic and as a self-defense gun it would do just fine.

Hey, ALL, great photos and reporting...
Of course, we’ve ALL heard of the Schofield Kid...from “Unforgiven”? A truly remarkable performance!

I had a Uberti Schofield with an 8” barrel up until a few years ago. Took both .45 Long Colt and .45 Schofield rounds. Worked great with smokeless but gummed up when I tried handloaded black powder cartridges in it. I suspect that it had tighter tolerances than the original 1870s model.

the .45 colt is a little bit more potent that an .44 mag No it isn't. And that Schofield is a .45 Colt.

.45 Long Colt is a fine self defense cartridge. On par
with but not quite a .44 Remington Magnum.

Or leave it in a display case with the action open like photo #2

Got one. So small you can hide it in the shower.
To: TheThirdRuffian
Seems cheap at that price for a gun that old.

I believe he was referring to handloads.
I used to load my Ruger blackhawk in 45LC so hot it would partially obliterate the writing on the case heads.
To: Elderberry
I believe he was referring to handloads. Sure, and you can do that. So can you with the .44. I have no problem with .45 Colt +P loads either. But if you want a .44 magnum, get a .44 magnum.

.45 colt would be good for reloading prices- cases are much cheaper. use lightweight loads and it’ll do fine.

I fired my BIL’s .45 Dirty Harry Model...a very pleasant experience. The little .38 seems to have more kick due to it’s minimal mass.

yeah, factory .45colt loads are about the equivalent of .44 special. most of my friends have rugers that’ll take full power loads, and load them about as hot as i load my .44 mag.

i referred to specific guns that are capable of handling the pressures. check a reloading book, they’ll list .45 colt loads, then .45 colt loads for ruger/ thompson with heavier max loads than a .44 magnum.
i did not know that that uberti took .45 colt though. i thank you for correcting that part.

It’s a new old gun.
As in, old style, but made in 2010.

S&W tried making some new Schofields, but they cost over a thousand dollars.
The new Schofields from S&W were sold by internet auction and most went for two thousand and up. I bought one and it was the only gun I ever returned to the Mfg for a full refund. It really soured by on the S&W Performance Center. The gun had been tweaked to make it shoot on point and in the process they warped the frame.

Well, that is a heck of an achievement, screwing up a nice pistol like that. Never had a problem like that with my Vaqueros... And I bet nobody had problem like that with Ubertis either...

No, Wyatt Earp at at the OK Corral.
Apparently worked effectively, or at least the promptly-deceased Billy Clanton and Frank McLaury would say so.
