Preppers' Thread to post progress, good buys, DIY projects, advice and ideas ...
Hope for the best and plan for the worst...
I have a portable, 12v handheld CB. In the event of the end of the world, I’d have to rig up a better antenna.
But the whole deal is only a couple watts. Still, better than nothing!
Meh. I want real sunspots and a bouncy ionosphere. I want sporadic E skip. I want ducting.
I maybe have 2 more cycles left before I shuffle off this mortal coil. This one has been the worst since I've been alive.

I can make RF from DC to daylight, but I'm a geek. Always have been.
11 meters is a good choice for a lot of reasons.
Just don't believe all the lore out there on the internet about the 29 Mhz band.

I’m living with my parents until my house is built. My dad considers prepping to be an excuse for hoarding disorder. It’s not uncommon, when mom and I are making a grocery list, for him to snarl “We’ve got too much food in this house already! Just forget it!”
Mom, on the other hand, agrees with me about the value of being prepared. Sometimes we hide things together. Earlier this week she even helped me pick crabapples for making crabapple butter with.
You are a ham operator?? I bought a fancy short wave receiver radio to listen to ham operators when all communication except that shuts down.
I haven’t studied that radio. Is it possible for you to transmit and I could pick it up? How would that work?
Prayers up for you, too.
Up until about 60 years ago, it was common to go into fall with a room full of food put back.
We've been blessed with a period where grocery stores almost always had food (except for tornados, earthquakes, snowstorms, landslides, wildfires, or hurricanes).
Do what you gotta do, kiddo.

It is time sensitive, related to sunlight on the upper atmosphere and frequency. One time of day, one frequency would be good, another time of day, another frequency, another time, none work from here to where you are.
My ex father-in-law lived near where you live when he was alive and we talked regularly via ham radio. We had to schedule it after doing some math. ;)
Possible. Not always easy. Start learning your radio by listening to BBC broadcasts. Best chance to hear them is around sundown local time between 5.8 and 7.3 MHz.
It's like fishing. Be patient.

Ping. I will look that up. Just watched Best Defense tonight and one of the subjects was dentistry. The kit with the extraction devices made me fast forward.
I agree with the BS as IF’s in radios would not work without this shielding. Me and Mr. Smith are acquaintances from USAF years ago.

Your local bottling company goes thru tons of food grade buckets and lids. The lids have real good seals. I filled one with rice and through in some oxygen scavengers. The bucket partially collapsed as the oxygen was removed and the pressure dropped inside. The inward dents also prove that the seal is holding.
It won't help you to grieve over the fact he doesn't help. Reality is what it is. Try to remove the resentment and concentrate on preparing. It might help you to read articles I wrote as there is humor there to keep you moving and preparing and you won't feel so alone. The articles begin at http://thesurvivalpodcast.com/forum/index.php?topic=24168.0
I use the name “Victoria” when I write these articles. (I hope it's okay with Kartographer to post the url where these articles are. It's not a blog and there is no financial gain for me.)
I wouldnt call their comments sea stories at all
radiation fall offs over distances is obvious, yet saturation is more important that the fall off of a radiated signal
and across all spectrums
and at the wattage it is going to be at
and when we are talking about the cascade effect of the power stations that lose transmission ability, and most likely more than one bomb going off, 3 at the most I think, unless they bought a few from Russia
Our nation is covered
grounding a faraday cage is just as dangerous, signals travel through ground, not just into ground
and as far as I know, hardly anyone speaks of isolation of componets, they only speak of grounding and shielding.
the least capable faraday cage near ground zero would be a blockhouse made of ceramic material and rubber pads with grounding rods in dry ground surrounded with that gel substance used to seal electronics in airborne systems that I used to apply when I rebuilt radar systems
I trust them much more than I trust you, my friend. Being a trained air controller, trained radar operator, degreed mechanical and electrical engineer with many friends a a widely diverse education and work experience...I trust them.

If the abscess keeps coming back in a few days, then it may be large enough that the low powered zapper is ineffective, in which case extraction may save your life.
Blood clots can be dealt with more effectively, and safely with capsaicin (hot peppers).
Aspirin or coumadin use with clots presents a severe stroke danger. Also they may damage the liver or kidneys; capsaicin won’t do that.
I had the same thoughts. Good thing my sister is a prescribing nurse.
Awesome!! Thank you Marcella (Victoria)!!
Weeeellllllll, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, young lady! And I hope you have many more.
