Many people think that a cat is more exotic and fancy but I am here to inform you that you shouldn’t believe a word those crazy cat lovers say because dogs make the world go round here are 10 reasons why dogs are better then cats.

1.  You can train a dog better than a cat. Have you ever seen a cat sit on command? Roll over on command? Stay? Neither have I.

2.  Dogs are smarter. Have you ever seen a dog fall into a fish tank? I haven’t either.

3.  A dog can protect your home much better than a cat.

4.   Dogs are better suited to lead you to a more active lifestyle. Have you ever seen anyone walk their cat?

5. There are a lot of things cats will jump up on that dogs won’t. The cat I had for a month would NOT get off my computer keyboard. Dogs won’t do that. I’ve also seen cats up on kitchen counters. Your dog also won’t climb a tree.

6. Dogs are much more fun to play with than cats.

7. A dog knows when you’re sad. And he’ll try to comfort you. Cats don’t care how you feel, as long as you remember where the can opener is.

8. Dogs will wake you up if the house is on fire. Cats will quietly sneak out the back door.

9. Dogs are Happy. Dogs think your the best person in the world even if you are grumpy, when you come home from school or work your Dogs will be there licking your face and jumping around and they cant wait to see you, while cats don’t notice if you are there or not as long as they get their food.

10. Dogs Listen. When you talk to dogs they will make faces and tilt there head and try to work out what your saying while cats just meow and walk away.

I hope you agree with the above reasons if you have anything to add to the list or disagree with one of them just comment below.

In reality, I am far from a ‘kill the dogs’ person...I rescued a chow not too long ago...at great lengths...took me months. I grew up with dogs and really do like them....but, I just get really pissed at the ones who kill my cats.

I don’t see how a pack of dogs viciously attacking another a boar or whatever that is, is somehow a plus. It’s disturbing to me.

Push comes to shove, overall, dogs are better - they can do work for us. Even if it’s just alerting us when someone’s about (my German Shepherd fails to do that, however - a really poor example of caninity).

Other than that, it really depends on the dog breed. Breeds are so drastically different that there are many I hold in low esteem compared to any given cat.

I love cats, BTW. Just that they’re not as practical.

I can disagree with any of them to some extent, but this 1’s really egregious on several levels:

“5. There are a lot of things cats will jump up on that dogs won’t. The cat I had for a month would NOT get off my computer keyboard. Dogs won’t do that. I’ve also seen cats up on kitchen counters. Your dog also won’t climb a tree.”

It’s called “training”. My cats don’t jump on anything I don’t put my butt on, because I’d teach them that way.

Dogs WILL do that if they can. Most dogs are careless about where they go or what they do as much as any cat. Little dogs are simply incapable of jumping straight up to a counter, while big dogs can certainly hoist up to lean on it. Don’t tell me you’ve never seen obnoxious, UNTRAINED (key again) bigger dogs reach up on counters to eat food and such.

Dogs simply can’t climb trees. That’s not a mark of their character, although I don’t know why tree-climbing is a “bad” thing except sometimes hard to deal with.

Touche, Sky.

Notice how it’s always “dog people” setting up these threads and making snide comments elsewhere about how superior dogs are. Insecurity?

I do love both; I’m just “mammal lover”, not any particular - although frankly for dogs it divides markedly based on breed. I’m very chauvinistic.

That is an awesome pix of Ibizan and other greyhound-types hunting! What is it, where from, etc?

They are Portuguese Podengo Grandes which are most likely Ibizan Hound/native dog mixes which have become set in type over the millennia.
[that photo is of a pack hunting in Portugal]

There are two other sizes; the Portuguese Podengo Pequeno [who was recently recognized by the AKC thanks to a dear friend of mine] and the Portuguese Podengo Medio, which is what my little Gypsy is.

The Portuguese, both in their native land and America use them for subsistence hunting.

They are hardy, determined and highly efficient hunters.

Wild boars are just as big and dangerous problem there as here.

[and I hear they’re pretty tasty, too]

;D

If you’ve seen the movies “Three Wishes” or “Zeus And Roxanne”, the dog star was PP Grande.

Perhaps you should ask the southerners who have to deal with savage wild boar all the time why it’s a “plus”.

Wild hogs will cheerfully *kill* you given the chance.

Those dogs are performing a necessary task.

They are not “viciously attacking it”; they are efficiently and independently hunting it down and killing it for their owner.

The Portuguese hunters -depend- on those dogs to put food on the table.

They are not a wealthy people and are subsistence hunters.

Would you prefer they let their families starve?

If I were to describe “disturbing”, I’d comment on all the maimed, mutilated and butchered for “fun” small animals that were victims of cats.

[you really haven’t lived until you’ve found a live baby bunny who’s been savagely, completely skinned and left to die...and is _screaming in horrible agony_...now *that* is “disturbing”]

Yes, nature is cruel...and animals acting on instinct don’t know any better. However, humans should know better. ‘Teaching’ animals to kill, is still disturbing....(unless it’s to save someones life.)

Some dog breeds can climb trees.

I think the negative is that cats are stereotypically depicted as getting “stuck” in trees (in reality, most cats know how to get down / can figure it out on their own.) Since some cat owners don’t want their cats “stuck” in a tree they “fix” the problem by bringing the cat down; the cat then learns to *expect* humans to “rescue” them from trees.

Nobody had to “teach” those Podengos to kill.

It’s who they are and how God made them.
They are equal partners in their owners’ desire for survival.

The dogs share in the meat.

They do not, however, kill “just for fun” like cats do.

Nor do they torture their victims by “playing” with them.

Death comes swiftly and without sadistic “joy”.

Only humans and cats “kill for sport”.

There’s an old saying

“You may kill in jest but the beast dies in earnest.”

I’ll stick with the critters who do not kill in jest.

LOL Now, Y’All know we’re biased. It’s a merciful thing I’m pressed for time & tired. I’m afraid I can refute almost every one of those. But still, there is no greater love than the love between a pooch & their person imo.
GREAT pics, Joe (LOL & reminders)- Thanks!!
