Many people think that a cat is more exotic and fancy but I am here to inform you that you shouldnt believe a word those crazy cat lovers say because dogs make the world go round here are 10 reasons why dogs are better then cats.
1. You can train a dog better than a cat. Have you ever seen a cat sit on command? Roll over on command? Stay? Neither have I.
2. Dogs are smarter. Have you ever seen a dog fall into a fish tank? I havent either.
3. A dog can protect your home much better than a cat.
4. Dogs are better suited to lead you to a more active lifestyle. Have you ever seen anyone walk their cat?
5. There are a lot of things cats will jump up on that dogs wont. The cat I had for a month would NOT get off my computer keyboard. Dogs wont do that. Ive also seen cats up on kitchen counters. Your dog also wont climb a tree.
6. Dogs are much more fun to play with than cats.
7. A dog knows when youre sad. And hell try to comfort you. Cats dont care how you feel, as long as you remember where the can opener is.
8. Dogs will wake you up if the house is on fire. Cats will quietly sneak out the back door.
9. Dogs are Happy. Dogs think your the best person in the world even if you are grumpy, when you come home from school or work your Dogs will be there licking your face and jumping around and they cant wait to see you, while cats dont notice if you are there or not as long as they get their food.
10. Dogs Listen. When you talk to dogs they will make faces and tilt there head and try to work out what your saying while cats just meow and walk away.
I hope you agree with the above reasons if you have anything to add to the list or disagree with one of them just comment below.

It’s not easy to train a dog to work against its instinct.
I’m sure the Izbans say to themselves, in private, “the veterinary visits, we can overlook; the refusal to provide 24/7 access to the refrigerator, we can forgive; the demands to leave the snakes alone? Unpardonable.”
;-)
Bears, you say? There’s a handful of videos showing cats chasing bears off....and then there’s this:

Our German Shepherd once did mild damage to a Wii nunchuck chewing on it as a puppy. He doesn’t chew, dig.... A few weeks ago, just talking to him, I gave him something like 6 commands to do (I needed some space). I about fell over when he took off and did everything I said.
As for cats, I had a Cornish Rex once. That was one awesome cat, albeit a mutant breed. It was almost like having a dog. Boy do I miss her. She was “Velcro kitty.” At night I had to lock her in the half bath, remove the toilet paper and turn off the water. If the door wasn’t locked she’d open it and nearly kill herself chasing geckos all night. She was so much fun. She could pick up balls and small toys in her front paws, stand on her back legs and throw them. She got a bath every week and thought the water sprayed at her when she jumped on the counter was a game. If I was at my computer, she was either wrapped around my neck or lying on the warm monitor since Rexes only have an under coat of hair. I was always batting her tail out of the way. One day I stuck a Post-It note on her @$$ to make it look like an elephant. Best cat ever.
Ahem. ;-)

Cat gets caught barking by a human and resumes meowing
Good dog! WonderDobe did great. :-)
I have a blind/deaf dog that knows her way around the house by walking against the walls. She gets put on her outdoor chain and knows where she is to poop and peep...Learned on her own how to go down 2 steps to go outside. Loves to go for walks just not as long as we use to. (I'm getting too old). But alas, she is not a good watch dog anymore but still loves to lay beside my bed or chair if I am in the computer room. When she is done with her business outside, lays down by the door and waits to be let in. If she is laying in the drive way, I just have to give her cable a gentle tug and she knows its time to come in...(she has a 50 foot chain outside....
But I still love cats also, each has their virtues..I want a Savannah or Bengal but too expensive....
My cat, a 13 year old, 18 pound solid black Abyssinian/ASH mix will fetch, go for walks (with or without a leash), most definitely knows when I am happy or sad, responds accordingly with kitty empathy, and shows affection in much more complex ways than just licking my face, although he does that too when he is really happy.
Dogs are ok, but cats are much more complex emotionally than people give them credit for, and I think are way smarter than most breeds of dog.
You are right, Afghan hounds are definitely not for novices, and they are a very quirky dog. Honestly, ours reminded me of a cat in many ways. I think she acted out mainly when she was cooped up, once we made her a dog door and she could get out into the big yard and run about whenever she needed to, she was much happier and better behaved (still ate random stuff, but not as insane). She was a love tho, extremely good-natured and patient with my kids (who would climb and lay all over her, she was like a warm fur blanket).
Along with Dobermanns, I’ve had Ibizan Hounds for 22 years.
Until I got the Ibizans, I never had need for a fence.
The new fence was put up about 2 days after the first Ibizan came here...:)
They are very hard to obedience train, thanks to their autonomous nature and nearly impossible to recall if they see something that looks like “prey”.
They can run just as fast as a Greyhound and catching them is impossible until they decide to be caught.
However, in spite of their ‘quirks’, they are a joy to own but also a *lot* of responsibility.
You can’t let your guard down for even one second and ‘fence security checks’ are ongoing.
They need to run and as you noticed, it makes them much happier, emotionally healthier dogs.
Sadly, too many Sight Hounds end up in shelters because people have no idea what they’re getting into.
Still, I wouldn’t have traded any of mine for the world.
:)
Ive had 3 heelers, 2 blues and a red, the largest was 40pnds, of course they were “pure.” My best was my mini, Billie, she was 20pnds. From inside the house I could say “truck” and she would sprint out of the house and hop in to the truck, if the window was open, the cab, if not the bed. She also could fetch beer from the fridge!
Love it! Great thread.
Agreed :)
Only if it could pin the blame on a dog. ;^)
