HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) City authorities in Zimbabwe's second largest city said Saturday they were appealing to home owners to flush their toilets at a specified time as a way to unblock sewers after days of severe water rationing. Bulawayo City Council has asked its more than 1 million residents to flush their toilets simultaneously at 7:30 p.m. when water supplies are restored. City officials say "synchronized flushing" is needed to clear waste that would have accumulated in sanitary facilities which will have been affected by days of water outages.

Soon to come to a country near you.

McLean Stevenson did a synchronized toilet flush joke across two nights filling in for Johnny Carson.
I'd suggest calling the local version of Roto-Rooter just to break up any beginnings of sedimentary rock just before the "flush".

We need to do this in early November. Clear the baffles!!

Synchronized Flushing. Sounds like a new Olympic event.
To: SeminoleCounty
Can we expect “synchronized flushing” to become an Olympic event in the near future?

I don’t know about the Olympics, but it happens during just about every NFL game.

Third World engineering solution. The streets of Harare will be ankle deep in ordure by 9:00 PM. Reminds me of the time I witnessed several dozen Nigerians and a tow truck attempt to roll start a dead Boeing 707 by hauling it down the runway as fast as they could go.

There are three possible outcomes. 1: the gunk does flush away. 2: the pipes will explode all over the city. 3: The water backs out.
Surely, there is a better idea out there?

That is insane.
Don’t they know they have to push it?
Like the guy was dragging a chain and another says
“Why are you dragging that chain”?
Guy #1 “Ever tried to push one”?

I remember in college there were stories about synchronized flushing on a college campus causing the plumbing to erupt. Probably an urban myth, but we might have the ultimate test in Zimbabwe.

Maybe ‘not’ an urban myth.
Remember Al Bundy and his ‘Ferguson’, when he finally got it installed he flushed and the water in the City Square Fountain receded.

As they say on Wall Street, this is a “pump and dump.” Or, perhaps a “Dump and Pump.”
