Theres no denying it: ladies love the chick flicks. For men, theyre instruments of torture they must endure with their woman so they can be rewarded at the end of the night. Women, however, eat them up especially the under-30 crowd. Theyll drag their boyfriends to them, bond with a group of girlfriends while watching them, or sit at home alone crying to them. Nevermind that theyre vapid, formulaic crap that Hollywood can churn out faster than Sandra Fluke can go through condoms. Theyre still successful.
Too bad they also send some of the worst messages to women in the history of mankind. Horrible stereotypes, insulting characters, idiotic relationship advice its all there. Some chick flicks are better at hiding it than others, but generally, you can count on the same thing each time. The worst part is, women are actually starting to believe the lunacy they see in these movies!
So which are the worst offenders, and what damaging messages do they send?

“Something Borrowed” belongs somewhere in that list. I never saw the movie, but I good the book from the library because it was supposed to be sooooo good.
The theme was that it’s perfectly OK to steal/sleep with your best friend’s fiance and you can justify it because she’s a really selfish person who always manages to have it better than you.
I really only liked a couple of the ones listed, however, those relationships aren’t real and I wouldn’t want to end up with most of those guys.
“An Officer and a Gentleman” should have been on the list.
The same can be said for men, movies, and the 2nd Amendment.
it was after that bs when shakespeare in love won best pic i said never again will i watch the oscars! still ticked about it!
That 50 first date movies was an awful movie. I saw it on tv and I have to say that it was worse than Ground Hog day, but along the same lines.
How about the ten most damaging dude flicks?
They are all super macho guys who can do anything with the shrug of a shoulder, and when they walk into a room, all the women fall down.
A car chase, some swearing, end scene.
I’m surprised “Grease” wasn’t on the list. When that first came out I so badly wanted to see it, but my mom wouldn’t let me because she didn’t think it was appropriate. I have to say I totally missed the message (good, wholesome girls get nothing, but sluts get what they want) when I first saw it and it wasn’t until years later that it dawned on me what my mom meant.
I dissagree. I liked the 50 First Dates movie, but it does create a completely unrealistic male role model.
I liked Ground Hog day the first couple of times I saw it too. But for Ground Hog day to be enjoyable as a rerun it starts too slow and it's got too much annoying attitude and too little humor.
Whereupon I smile, get the check, say I have an early morning and lose the speaker's number.
The modern Rom Con almost didn’t happen. It was supposed to be a murder mystery.

Sandy didn’t become a slut. She changed gangs to be with Travolta, and so changed ‘uniforms’. And at the same time Travolta changed gangs to be with her.
Plus the ‘teen pregnancy’ in the movie gets married. All very wholesome. Grease is about the music.
"ACTING!"
My wife LOVES Dirty Dancing. I think Patrick Swayze effects her brain cells. But what’s with the average-looking co-star? Is that the gimmick? The average girl can get the cabana boy?
Nevermind, I don’t care.
A car chase, some swearing, end scene.
I'm satisfied as long as there are explosions. Lots if explosions.
gotta, say....Brigit Jones’ Diary impressed me with how totally spot-on Renee Zellweger managed to nail the Brit dialect. (she beat out several British actresses for the part)

That’s James Bond. Strangely enough, most men’s-men don’t seem very interested in women, or at least relationships (Clint, John Wayne, Stallone, Segal). Hmmmm... Is it chivalry, or something else?
Bruce Willis would be an exception. The original Die Hard is my favorite action movie. The relationship humanizes him. It’s a positive message, and not too cloying. It’s not the main reason for the movie’s appeal, but it’s a nice element.
That may be it. If it isn’t, I don’t know what it is.
Are you insinuating that The Duke was a fag?
