I reload a formula with the .45 that nearly duplicates the Cor-Bon DPX, first off the bullet is a solid copper Barnes Tac-XP 185 grain that has a super deep cavity that when it fills with organic matter and not clothing fiber, drywall, or sheet metal it expands into four segments on average to about 1.25” and it moves much faster than the traditional 835 fps a 230gr ball will do.
I have tried the .400 CORBON which is a bottlenecked .45 case propelling a .40 bullet but I was not impressed. For extreme conditions such as in the bush and I know black bears are nearby I carry a Glock 10mm. The .45 with a faster 185gr bullet is still accurate and delivers a proven bullet design that though its copper it has a unique predictable destructive wound channel.
For my Alaska big game hunting cartridges I use the Barnes Triple Shocks all the time now. Instead of a controlled mushroom effect from a lead bullet Barnes has designed literally a high speed auger propeller blade effect with its bullets, a deep massive wound channel that placed properly drops big game very fast.
Their handgun bullets are being adopted by many law enforcement officials as being highly effective and being lead free, but this one works very effective at the same time.
Hollywood is partly to blame. People don’t fly 30 feet backwards off the ground when shot by a shotgun in real life.
Also, bullet proof vests are not magic shields against bullets. Ballistic protection also varies in what caliber it can defend against, and regardless being shot can break ribs and cause internal injury.
The Aurora shooter would very likely have been stopped if someone were able to get a shot off. But that is against the Mainstream Media unenlightened premise that fighting back NEVER works. We are all better off just being unarmed sheeple in their opinion.

3. It was YOU, who chose WHICH CALIBER AND CAPACITY, not me or anyone else.
Now, as to WHICH caliber has the more nuclear-powered ability to fry and liquify another being’s guts, which this old argument is all about, that was YOUR choice, again, and not mine or anyone else’s to make.

I am of age, successfully, to be your grumpy, old, frumpy looking, neighbor. How I got here, was not by Mssr.’s European 9mm or American .45 ACP, but really old-fashioned Smith and Wesson .38 Special cartridges, applied with vigor towards ChiCom frogmen, who attacked my airbase from the Gulf of Siam, and a few ThaiCom, from the local village near the airbase. (you know, the barber by day that wore black at night.) I use what I know, because I know it works.

This is true. Which is why you shift your aim off center-mass (where the body armor would be) to either the head or the pelvis (which would not be covered by armor) if the first one or two shots do not seem to be effective.
One instructor of mine told me to try for an immobilizing shot to the pelvis (a bigger target) rather than the head, THEN try for a head shot.

The guy GAVE UP because he was AFRAID of being shot. So just shooting at him would have knocked him off his game.
If you want to consider against body armor, it’s NOT good enough just to go .45 You have to get a teflon coated steel jacketed bullet. And even then it’2 50 / 50 because a /.45 does not have enough FPS.....Keep in mind body armor was designed to stop RIFLE bullets at standard calibers as well.

I went to a gun range with a guy who had been talking up his stuff. He couldn’t put 5 inside the target (1.5 foot diameter) at 20 yards offhand!
Yet he had a 1500$ pistol.....Clearly the guy needs a professsional to fit him, glasses, or nrrve pills. My point is, accuracy is king.
There ARE small .45’s for concealed carry (I conceal here in Texas am required to).... Have you seen the Kahr .45?

If you are shooting a springfield (I have the 9m) it’s a nice high capacity, but its’ not a daily carry, unless you have a holster.
As far as how the Kahr shoots (I have a lot of time on Kahrs, springfields, glocks, taurus) I would say the Kahr shoots more accurately than any other. (It’s CNC machined, tolerences are very low) - don’t buy the newer cheaper Kahrs though, as they might be as good (they are not 100% machined), and I don’t know about them.

I am a fan of the 10mm myself. I used to have the Glock 10mm, but Glocks just do not fit my hand right. I got some of that original 10mm Norma ammo in 200 grain, and it was HOT.
I also used to have a Detonics .45 which I did some ballistic testing with. It was 20 years ago, and I do not have the info anymore as to what load it was.
The bullet failed to stabilize, and tumbled in the media. That may not be a bad thing, but the hollowpoint did not fully mushroom out, it just folded over one side.
I have thought about trying the .400 Cor-Bon myself, but it’s probably better just to stay with the proven full power 10mm. I have also considered getting a .40 Hi-Power and having a .357 Sig barrel mad for it.
Thanks for the info and link. I’m looking for something small similar to the Springfield XDS. Haven’t made up my mind yet. I’ll check out the Kahr. Picked up a nice holster at the local gun store that doubles outside as a cellphone holder on the exterior looks like u have a phone and the inside where you conceal makes it look like you aren’t carrying.
I carry in a “hippy pack” and sometimes a cell phone holder for my conceal.
I have a crimson trace grip. Great for dim light, not so good for bright daylight.
My hope is a somebody comes out with a good green laser grip, so it could do day/night.
Be aware, Kahr .45 is ~ 900$. They have a newer model ~380$ to 400$
Also, the guy who started Kahr is related to Sun Yung Moon (the moonie guy).....obviously he’s cut from different stock the then moonie guy.
Hmmm more than I wanted to spend..I think for what I want the price of the Springfield is the way to go. I’ve watched some videos and I think I would be happy with it.
like i said i have a springfield xd (for about 3 years). I put crimson trace grips on it as well. When I open carry, it’s my gun, on a leg mount.
