Thanks to one of our Twitter followers, @TheAlexLynch97, weve learned that James Street North in Hamilton, ON will be made to look like Detroit for Robocop.
Crews are currently converting a space at 265 James Street North into a restaurant where a chase scene will take place September 24 October 1.
The Robocop reboot, starring Joel Kinnaman, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, and Michael Keaton, is scheduled to begin filming in Toronto this week. Originally, the movie was also expected to film at least a few exterior scenes in Detroit (where the movie is set) but now that Hamilton is filling in for Detroit, we wonder if the Michigan portion of the shoot will be scrapped.
Detroit is too dangerous to film in probably. It’s far too run down for a post-apocalyptic film.
The original Robocop was filmed in Dallas.
Well, to be fair, quite a bit of the original Robocop was filmed in Dallas, Texas.
parts of it, exterior scenes especially
Give it a Democrat mayor and city council and it’ll be looking like Detroit in no time.
Seriously.
Detroit is STILL too shitty to use in a movie about a “future” Detroit that’s decayed and dying?
That really says something.
Paul Verhoeven actually scouted Detroit and thought it was already too decrepit and decayed to film the original movie there. Detroit’s only gotten worse, so it’ll be interesting to see what they have to do to Hamilton, Ontario. Maybe we should bomb it?
Since Samule Jackson is in it I wont be going to see this one.... I may DL it from the net to see it but I wont give money to the Hollyweird propaganda machine
Hamilton’s a nice city - a huge Muslim population, but a nice city.
And don't think of filming anything short of a remake of "Battle of the Bulge" in Chicago.
I would not be surprised if it was less costly on insurance, craft services, lodging, and other expenses that rack up quickly outside of Detroit.
Downtown Houston was Detroit in one of the previous Robo movies
Canada Ping!
There would definitely be insurance savings, but now that our dollar is at par they probably wouldn’t save much on other costs. Our film industry peaked in the 1990s when our dollar was worth less than 70 cents.
Yeah, it’s not like there is a whole bunch of empty space available in Detroit. Give ‘em one of those neighborhoods slated to be bulldozed and have at it!
The Secret Service can’t even keep their truck from being stolen.
The NBC miniseries about The Temptations (which still reruns often on cable) was filmed here in Pittsburgh. Detroit at this point in time not only looks really bad on film, but it is indeed unsafe for film crews to work there.
Toronto and Hamilton have stood in for Detroit before. A cheesy rock-and-roll flick called Detroit Rock City comes to mind.
Ive been to Hamilton..
Its a college town...
and SOOOOOOO much cleaner than Willard’s home town...
Previous Dallas and Houston (and another city) had been used to “simulate” Detroit.
Nothing new here.
I’m tired of “reboots” (they don’t even bother to call them remakes anymore).
Hollywood is out of ideas. Stick a fork in it and let the Democrats find another source of money to run for office.
