Guy on the phone said this damage is equal to or greater than Katrina.
Stationary system, New Orleans getting clobbered. Rescues underway for people who "didn't have the time to get out".
18 miles of levee in Plaquamines Parish have over-topped.
Emergency services have reported people trapped on roof tops, two pump operators went out onto a levee to find out why the pumps had stopped and had to be rescued by boat.
And the parish president predicted that some of his levees would be over-topped a couple of days ago. This morning, the Army Corps of Engineers was quick to claim it wasn’t one of THEIR levees. Guess all the money spent on rebuilding the levees in New Orleans didn’t make it down the river to Plaquamines Parish. Oh, that’s right...Louisiana is a red state, and I’m guessing that parish went for John McCain four years ago.
One of the unreported stories of the Obama years (among many) is his disdain for disaster victims in places that vote Republican. Remember the deadly flooding in Middle Tennessee a few years ago? More than 30 people died; the damage toll was in the billions and O couldn’t be bothered to visit the victims. He also refused disaster aid for Virginia after Governor McDonnell and his attorney general sued the feds over Obama Care.
Water is coming over the top of the levee south of N.O.
The levee has not been breached (torn, ruptured, resulting in gap). TWC’s use of this term is inaccurate and creating misunderstanding of the actual situation and problem.
A levee being overtopped with water and flooding the low side is bad enough, but a breach would result in a faster and larger scale catastrophic situation.
It’s Obama’s fault they didn’t have time to get out.
And how could a bankrupt government ever afford to properly improve and fix the levies.
This Hurricane is going to sit over South East Louisiana for much longer then Katrina. Seems to be double the time already, if I have to just flat out guess. He hardly moved during the night.
1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
If people are too stupid and lazy to get an ID to vote, then an evacuation is certainly beyond their capabilities.
Once again: Dick Cheney’s Halliburton Hurricane Machine in action. /sarc.
After Katrina, we had several church groups, (electricians, carpenters etc), head for N O to help with the clean up and rebuild. When they got there nothing was done and the residents just sat and watched. From that I don’t think N O is going to get much help from this corner of Illinois.
I had a buddy who did this as well. First day there, he said a bunch of perfectly able-bodied men sat in the shade and watched, while he and his team unloaded truckloads of water. When they were approached - if I know my buddy, it was "How about you guys get off your *** and help us", approximately - the people just laughed at him.
Next, my friends team pulled up stakes and moved to Mississippi, one of the guys had connections there. He said that they were already doing a good job of digging out, but appreciated the help nonetheless.
Nah!!! Looting Heineken beer and slugging through backwater is something Obama simply would not do.
He’d be sitting high and dry somewhere and have some Dem Flunky do it. He’d then complain about how the flunky got the bottles wet.
They will blame Jindal, instead of Obama, the DNC has all of their bases covered, and the willing media in their corner.
He also refused to declare Texas a disaster area after the fires here a couple of years ago.
