CBS Atlanta ^ | August 28, 2012 | CBS Atlanta

A former fifth-grade teacher implicated in a cheating scandal reportedly gave students the illegal assistance because she thought they were “dumb as hell.”...

Schajuan Jones, who taught a fourth-grade class across the hall from Smith’s former room, overheard her talking to another teacher about the test.

“The words were, ‘I had to give your kids, or your students, the answers because they’re dumb as hell,’” Jones was quoted as saying about the interaction between Smith and the unidentified third teacher.

If you gave the kids the answers to the test by working them on the board the day before, and still only had 3 pass, I would have to say that Ms. Smith’s assessment is dead on. Some kids, I might even venture to say most in these urban hell holes, really are dumb as hell.

That said, if these kids really are a lost cause, why bother to pay a unionized “educator” upwards of 60K plus benefits when all you get is a highly paid babysitter? Why not just hire the babysitter?

The students weren't the only dumb as hell ones in that room.

said the teacher with the name created by a 5 year old

The usual method of 'soul' name generation is to draw a spoonful from a bowl of alphabet soup and to use the letters in the spoon to create the name. There are certain rules allowing one or more substitutions to create a name that keeps it real, but I can't recall them.

Just think - some of these “dumb as hell” kids are going to be getting into college based on their inflated grades and fake CRCT scores. Heck, if the grades were inflated to a B, they’ll even have “Hope” scholarships.

And my kids, who go to a decent school and have to work for their grades, will have to compete against them for placement. And these losers will have advantages like race and being “disadvantaged.”

Just think how much damage these swine are doing to our education system. They just keeping digging the hole deeper.

I went to a Catholic school with about 1/4 the budget per student as NYC public schools and 48 students per teacher, but we could read and do sums.

So did I. What percentage of students had intact families? (let me guess - 90% or higher)

My daughter teaches 3rd grade in an upscale suburb here in Indiana. She has 40% intact families. Imagine what that number is in urban shools. Asking public schools to fix a "great society" problem is a fools task.

If they can run a 4.4 40 and catch the ball, you bet they will.

Schajuan wasn’t the guilty teacher—she was testifying against the one who gave the kids the answers, Shayla.

Honestly, I think it was much closer to 98%. I know of one kid who was raised by his grandmother and who was a constant discipline problem - in the class two years ahead of mine! They used to tell us that his father was a "merchant seaman". Also my little sister had a friend who lived with only her mother, the details of her father's absence were never clear to me.

This is the self-fulfilling prophecy of inner city public schools.

The assumptions is the kids are dumb or don’t want to learn, so the teacher doesn’t even try to teach them. Result: the kids don’t learn anything and so they teacher’s bias about the kids being dumb becomes a reality.

This is REAL racism, and it’s practiced by the left on a daily basis.

‘I had to give your kids, or your students, the answers because they’re dumb as hell,’...

Dumb, hell! They are culturally deprived, raised in an atmosphere where showing an interest in school puts you at risk of being beaten up by your peers for "acting white". Raised by parents who put little or no value on education.

A few years down the road, they'll be able to calculate the dealer markup on the drugs they sell just fine, thank you! They'll be able to game the system six ways to Sunday, too.

“They’re ‘Dumb As Hell’”

Help me out here. Is she referring to the teachers, or the ones that choose the curricula, the administrators. Just who?

Surely not the students who have no say in trying to control a system designed to ASSURE that they never get off of welfare.

I end up posting this a lot here, and it would seem to be appropriate for this thread. It’s South African comedian Trevor Noah on Leno, and he’s funny as all get out while really taking American blacks to task over that stuff.

When asked what they want to be when they grow up, “Ho” and “Pimp” are normal answers.

Using “career” in a test flummoxes the whole class.

Obesity is the most common health problem.

"I might even venture to say most in these urban hell holes, really are dumb as hell."

I would say more likely the problem with most of these kids is they were never taught "how to learn."

I bet no one ever read to them much when they were little. (We read to our daughter every night from the day we brought her home from the hospital till she was in the 3rd grade when she told us she was too old for such baby stuff. She is a constant reader always wanting new books from Amazon!)

If kids aren't taught to love reading books they won't. And if they won't read its hard to keep up in school. We always made a game out of math, riding in cars waiting in line etc. We even did basic math in Spanish (Very broken Spanish but she could add and subtract using Spanish numbers, now she is fairly fluent speaking it.)

We never forced her to learn we made it a natural part of everyday life. And I bet most of these so-called Dumb kids can operate a cell phone and are fluent in "texteese" and I bet they can finish a Xbox game in under a week. and that tells me they are not dumb, they just haven't been taught how to learn in school. Its a failure of the school system AND the parents/family.
